49ers Get Second Win Of Season

London, England (Sports Network) - Frank Gore carried a heavy load, running 29 times for 118 yards and a touchdown, and the San Francisco 49ers scored 21 consecutive points in the fourth and held on for a 24-16 victory over the Denver Browns in the NFL's international game at Wembley Stadium.

Troy Smith started for the first time since 2007 for the 49ers (2-6) and completed 12-of-19 passes for 196 yards with a touchdown. Smith, who also recorded the team's first rushing score since Week 2, helped San Francisco win for the second time in three weeks.

Delanie Walker had five catches for a career-high 85 yards, while Michael Crabtree caught a touchdown pass for the 49ers, who did not turn the ball over.

Kyle Orton threw for 369 yards on 28-of-40 efficiency with a touchdown and an interception for the Broncos (2-6), who were coming off an embarrassing 59-14 to the Raiders and have allowed 20 or more points in three of their last eight quarters. Former 49er Brandon Lloyd caught seven passes for 169 yards and a touchdown in defeat.

The Broncos appeared to score a touchdown inside two minutes to potentially tie the game with a two-point conversion, but Eddie Royal's punt return for a score was nullified because of a block in the back penalty. Orton eventually threw a game-ending interception on the ensuing series.
