NBA Mock Draft 2012: Sacramento Kings Select Thomas Robinson With No. 5 Pick

The Sacramento Kings are in a bit of a sticky situation at the moment. The team has a cornerstone player of the future in DeMarcus Cousins and a great scorer in Marcus Thornton, but that's about all that is set in stone at the moment.

Point guard Isaiah Thomas had a nice rookie season, but it remains to be seen if he can keep that level of play up once defenses adjust to him. Guard/forward/point-forward Tyreke Evans has not developed the way Kings fans have hoped since a promising rookie year, and there have been talks that he could be moved in the right deal. Neither John Salmons nor Donté Green look like legitimate options on the wing, so there's a hole at that position as well.

Most mock drafts have the Kings going with a wing or forward with the No. 5 overall pick at the upcoming 2012 NBA Draft. Chad Ford's latest mock has Sacramento going with Kansas big man Thomas Robinson in the first round.

Analysis: The Kings, if they keep the pick, will likely try to add some athleticism, size and toughness to their front line. Drummond is bigger and is an elite athlete, but Robinson is also an explosive athlete and actually produced in college. More importantly, Robinson is a winner. He could help Sacramento turn around the team's culture. The dark horse at No. 5? I'm hearing it could be UNC's John Henson.
