The Sacramento Kings had a lot of money to work with in the offseason and spent a good chunk of it on Friday afternoon as the team officially signed Chuck Hayes and re-signed Marcus Thornton. Each player is signed for four years, with Hayes set to earn just over $21 million dollars and Thornton set to earn somewhere around $32 million.
The two fill an immediate need for Sacramento: Hayes, 28, will serve as the fourth front court member along with DeMarcus Cousins, Jason Thompson and J.J. Hickson, while Thornton, 23, will likely be the starting two-guard alongside Tyreke Evans. The Kings struggled shooting the ball and defending the paint last season, and they addressed both of those needs for a reasonable amount of money with the signings.
With Sacramento signing Jimmer Fredette, Tyler Honeycutt and Isaiah Thomas to their rookie contracts on Friday, the roster is starting to come together. The team still has somewhere around $10-12 million dollars to spend in the coming weeks, and a move could be coming soon, according to Grant Napear. Stay tuned for that.
