The San Francisco Giants were going for the sweep on Sunday afternoon against the Milwaukee Brewers at AT&T Park. Despite blowing a lead in the ninth inning, the Giants rallied in the 11th to claim a 4-3 victory.

Matt Cain pitched very well against a quality Brewers lineup, working seven innings and allowing just two runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out 10. Shawn Marcum started for Milwaukee and pitched well, tossing six frames of three-run ball.

Aramis Ramirez drove in a run in the first inning with a bloop RBI-single. Recent call-up Conor Gillaspie doubled to tie the score at 1-1, the second RBI of his career. Angel Pagan then drove Gillaspie in with a groundout to second baseman Rickie Weeks to give the Giants a 2-1 lead.

Ryan Theriot singled in a run in the fourth inning to make the score 3-1. Ramirez then answered in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to one.

Santiago Casilla came on for the save in the ninth. Corey Hart reached on an error from Gillaspie to lead off the inning. After a strikeout of Jonathan Lucroy and pop out from Taylor Green, Travis Ishikawa doubled into the left-center field gap to tie the score at 3-3.

The Giants loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11th against an erratic Tim Dillard. Hector Sanchez worked the count to 3-0 in his favor, and after seeing two strikes cross the plate, he lined a ball into left field for an RBI-single to win the game.

A big win for San Francisco, especially after blowing the lead in the ninth. They'll now head to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks.

After losing 6-4 Friday night and winning 5-2 on Saturday, the San Francisco Giants will look to take the series from the Milwaukee Brewers behind Matt Cain Sunday afternoon. Cain is 1-2 so far this season despite posting a 2.35 ERA and 30 strikeouts to only six walks. The Giants have struggled to support the pitcher, scoring only four runs overall in Cain's last three starts.

The Brewers face San Francisco missing some key elements of their lineup, Mat Gamel tore his ACL on Tuesday against the Padres, Ryan Braun left the following game with a sore Achilles tendon, Carlos Gomez strained his left hamstring in Friday's victory over the Giants and Alex Gonzales may have a serious knee injury resulting from sliding into second base in Saturday's loss. The Brewers will look to Shaun Marcum (1-1, 3.19) to contain the Giants, who went 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA against San Francisco in the 2011 season. Buster Posey may have a big day, he's 15 for 32 against Milwaukee with four home runs.

The game starts at 1:05pm PST and will be broadcast on CSN-Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.

Madison Bumgarner pitched seven solid innings and hit an RBI double in the fifth inning to help his own cause as the Giants won today for the first time in five games. Hector Sanchez hit two doubles, tallied an RBI and scored a run and Melky Cabrera hit a triple and also scored for the Giants (13-14).

Sanchez hit two monster doubles that likely would have been home runs in most other parks. After his first double of the day, Bumgarner, who allowed a single run in the first inning, doubled him in on a line shot to left field in the fifth to open the scoring for San Francisco. The following inning, the Giant hitters finally seemed to figure out Randy Wolf, who rapidly began struggling with his control as his pitch count rose. Cabrera opened the frame with a triple to left-center and Buster Posey hit a single up the middle to drive him in and provide the Giants with a lead they would not relinquish. Brett Pill and Conor Gillaspie would also record RBIs in the sixth inning to put the Giants up 4-1.

In the eighth inning, reliever Guillermo Mota gave up a solo home run to reigning NL MVP Ryan Braun, but he and Javier Lopez shut the door to end the inning. Hector Sanchez hit his second double for an RBI in the bottom of the eighth, and then Santiago Casilla handled the Brewers in the ninth to record his fifth save.

Bumgarner was fairly dominant save the second inning, striking out five and only walking one. He consistently fooled the Brewer hitters by changing speeds and sight lines, and would have had even greater success if not for a few questionable check-swing calls. His command was excellent and his slider was biting hard. He looked every bit what Giants fans expect him to be, which is a perennial Cy Young contender.

The Giants will try to take the series tomorrow with Matt Cain on the hill, facing Shaun Marcum. Game time is once again 1:05 Pacific.

Tim Lincecum looked very shaky early on, unable to find the strike zone as he gave up three first-inning runs to the Brewers, one on a wild pitch. He settled down after that and threw four more solid innings, retiring his last ten batters faced. However, Zack Greinke shut down the Giant bats for the most part until the sixth inning when the Giants scored three runs to tie the game at 4 apiece. Angel Pagan singled in the fifth to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

After that, the Brewers scored two runs in the seventh inning off Clay Hensley with an Aramis Ramirez two-run single, and that was all they would need as the bullpen tandem of Francisco Rodriguez and John Axford shut the Giants out in the eighth and ninth frames to secure the Milwaukee victory, 6 to 4.

Lincecum's overall line does not look terrible- five innings, two hits, three runs, four strikeouts. However, if you saw his lack of command in the first inning you would think the wheels were falling off, and his struggles in the first inning so far have been a recurring theme for him this season. If the Giants are to contend this year, Lincecum must stop digging them holes to climb out of in the first inning of his starts.

The Giants have not won a game since losing Pablo Sandoval to injury. On Saturday, Madison Bumgarner will take on Randy Wolf, a pitcher who has had great success against the Giants. Game time is 1:05 PM Pacific.

The San Francisco Giants are looking to get out of their recent funk, starting with the Milwaukee Brewers Friday night. To do so they’ll turn to a young, speedy lineup to try and end their currently losing streak.

Gregor Blanco gets the nod in the leadoff spot, playing right field this evening, while Conor Gilaspie will start at third base and bat second. Brandon Belt will be at first once again, Joaquin Arias moves over to shortstop as Brandon Crawford gets the night off, while Emmanuel Burriss gets the start at second, batting eighth.

Tim Lincecum and Zack Greinke have both come a long way since they each won a Cy Young Award back in 2009. Lincecum's won a World Series, while Greinke has found himself a home in Milwaukee after escaping the doldrums of Kansas City.

Now these two square off Friday night in the first installment of The San Francisco Giants and the Milwaukee Brewers three game set this weekend at AT&T Park.

Lincecum (2-2, 5.74) kept the Padres in check his last time out, holding them to just one run on three hits in eight innings of work for his second straight victory. He still walked four and threw 121 pitches, but he's headed in the right direction with back-to-back wins after getting shelled to start the season.

As for Greinke, (3-1, 3.94) he's got back-to-back W's in his pocket as well, including six innings of one run ball against the Cardinals in his last outing. He gave up 15 hits combined in those last two victories though, and has lasted longer than six innings in just one start this season.

Angel Pagan continues to rake, bumping his league leading hit streak to 17 straight. Still the rest of the team needs to get it going at the dish with Pablo on the shelf, and plate discipline will certainly help that. San Francisco batters are averaging 3.67 pitches per plate appearance, the 2nd-fewest in the National League aside the Chicago Cubs (3.66).

Reigning NL MVP Ryan Braun left Wednesday's game with soreness in his Achilles, and is uncertain for tonight's game. Knowing his tenacity I'd bet he'll want to be in the lineup, but it's up to the medical staff now.

First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. PT this evening with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM in the Bay Area, while Fox Sports North and WTMJ 620 AM will have coverage up in Wisconsin.

The San Francisco Giants are looking for some answers, hoping that the Milwaukee Brewers could provide some this weekend. For more on the Giants, head over to McCovey Chronicles.

With the San Francisco Giants fresh off a sweep at home at the hands of the Miami Marlins, the last thing they should want to see is the reigning NL MVP showing up at AT&T Park in their next series. But Ryan Braun and the Milwaukee Brewers come to town limping a bit themselves, looking for better luck on their west coast road trip during a three game set at McCovey Cove.

Questions abound for the Giants at the moment. Pablo Sandoval is out for 4-6 weeks with a broken hamate bone, their lineup is now riddled with AAA call-ups and young whipper sanppers struggling at the dish and in the field. They're averaging more than and error a game, currently sitting second to worst in MLB with 28 in 25 games. They're also just 9-48 (.186) with RISP over their last six games, which they've lost four of. But, they aren't dead in the water by any means.

Angel Pagan extended his league leading hit streak to 17 straight, while Gregor Blanco and Brandon Belt have been getting hot at the plate as of late as well. Giants starting pitchers are getting it together as well, having kept opposing teams to three runs or fewer in 14 of their last 15 outings.

As for Milwaukee, they're 4-6 in their last 10 games, including back-to-back shutouts at the hands of the the San Diego Padres. That wasn't all they lost as first baseman Mat Gamel tore his ACL in his right knee while attempting a foul ball catch at Petco Park, meaning the Giants will likely see a lot of former Giant Travis Ishikawa at first. Ryan Braun is also suffering from some tightness in his Achilles, which may slow him down this series a bit. Though he did just hit three homers in one game at Petco Park so...

San Francisco will also see another 'friendly face' on the Brew Crew as Brooks Conrad was recalled from AAA Nashville, the man now notorious with Giants fans for his 'help' in their NLDS series victory over the Braves in 2012.

Tim Lincecum (2-2, 5.74) takes the bump Friday night, but will have his hands full against right-hander Zack Greinke (3-1, 3.94) in a showdown between the NL and AL Cy Young winners of 2009. Both enter with back-to-back wins in their last two starts, each holding their opponents to one run their last time out. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. PT. with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.

Red hot Madison Bumgarner (4-1, 2.53) opposes Randy Wolf (2-2, 6.84) in a battle of the lefties on Saturday. Bumgarner has won his last four in a row, while Wolf has gotten the W in his last two starts. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. PT with coverage on FOX and KNBR 680 AM.

Righties Matt Cain (1-2, 2.35) and Shaun Marcum (1-1, 3.19) will close out the series Sunday. Cain has pitched well but lost his last two outings in a row, while Marcum hasn't had a decision since April 14, a loss to the Braves. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.

One of these teams has to stop the bleeding. Hopefully the Giants can find some band-aids this weekend.
