With news of Pablo Sandoval's broken hamate bone and the gloomy conditions at AT&T Park Thursday afternoon, it was a bit of a sullen atmosphere around the ballpark today. Nevertheless the show must go on as the Miami Marlins were hungry for another sweep in San Francisco. But Miami came out on top once more, sweeping the Giants for the second series in a row at AT&T by the score of 3-2.

Ryan Vogelsong (L 0-2) lumbered through the first two innings, allowing two runs to score on a pair of RBI groundouts from Hanley Ramirez. After that he settled down quite a bit, keeping the Marlins in check for the next five frames. All in all he would finish after seven innings of work, giving up eight hits, one earned run, four walks and five strikeouts. Another tough luck loss for Vogey.

Anibal Sanchez (W 2-0) was dealing once again for Miami, pitching seven solid innings of one run ball along with seven hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Jose Reyes added an RBI single in the eighth off of Clay Hensley as well, with every lead this series seeming to be insurmountable.

Gregor Blanco was the man of the afternoon for San Francisco, scoring both of the Giants runs in the sixth and eighth innings respectfully after his 3-3 day, with both the RBI's attributed to Melky Cabrera who finished the game 2-4. Brandon Crawford had two errors on the day and was 0-2 at the plate, though Brandon Belt had a nice game finishing 2-4.

With the loss the Giants move to 12-13 on the season.

Tim Lincecum gets the nod in the first of a three game set with the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend, taking on Zach Grienke in a battle of Cy Young winners on Friday. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. PT.

The Injury bug never seems to leave the San Francisco Giants alone.

For the second straight season Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval has broken the hamate bone in the base of his hand, this time on the left side, which will force the team to put him on the DL as he'll likely require surgery once more.

Conor Gillaspie has been called up from Triple-A Fresno as his replacement.

Sandoval seems to wince in pain after taking a swing in the fifth inning of last night's game, and was immediately pulled and not seen in the dugout. After the game he left the stadium weraing a black brace on his hand.

Pablo began the season with a major league leading 20 game hit streak, currently owning a .316/.375/.537 clip along with five homers and 15 RBI. He had started every game for San Francisco so far this season, and was the main offensive cog in the lineup along with Buster Posey. Now they'll be without their All-Star third baseman once more, for how long we do not know at this point.

It's also the one year anniversary to the day of Pablo's surgery on his right hand. A little extra jab from the baseball gods.

Will all the injuries and setbacks the Giants have suffered already, it's starting to look like 2011 all over again.

As everyone prepares to hear terrible news on Pablo Sandoval's left hand, the San Francisco Giants still have a game to play this afternoon, looking to avoid being swept by the Miami Marlins for the second straight series at AT&T Park.

Ryan Vogelsong (0-1 4.19 ERA) is still looking for his first victory of the year, allowing four earned runs over six innings in his last time out in Cincinnati, but had back-to-back quality starts to start the year. He's had 20 strikeouts, walked seven while allowing 16 hits in 19 1/3 innings of work this season. Vogey is 1-2 with a 2.16 ERA in six career outings against the Marlins, including a .174 opponent's batting average and 17 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched.

He'll be up against Anibal Sanchez (1-0 2.73 ERA) who held the D-backs to just two runs on three hits over seven innings of work despite struggling early with his command in his last outing.

Angel Pagan is still streaking, bumping his hit streak to 16 straight last night, but all the focus remains on Sandoval, who will likely have a diagnosis on his hand sometime this morning.

Could the San Francisco Giants have lost Kung Fu Panda for an extended period of time once more?

Pablo Sandoval knocked down a hit toward the right side that chopped down the line, and then Sandoval noticeably grimaced as he was running down the line. Sandoval left the game after that and was replaced by Ryan Theriot.

The early word seems to be hand injury, which should mass panic. Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area files this report.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy Bochy said Sandoval was in "quite a bit of pain" but did now specify when Sandoval injured himself. Replays showed Sandoval grimacing as he grounded out against Carlos Zambrano in the sixth. Ryan Theriot replaced Sandoval to start the seventh inning, with Joaquin Arias moving from second to third.

Bochy did not sugarcoat it when asked his level of concern.

"Oh, quite a bit, to be honest," Bochy said. "For him to come out of the game, his hand is pretty sore. There's a lot of concern here. We know what this guy means to our club and our offense. You hope for the best, that's all you can do. He's our No. 3 hitter, No. 4 today, and he's swinging well from both sides. He's having a good year. We're hoping we get some good news with this."

A year ago, Sandoval broke his hand on the other side, putting him out of action for two months. The early worry is that Sandoval has suffered another type of injury that could cause him to miss time, which the Giants can't afford to deal with given their hitting woes. Sandoval is putting up splits of .323/.376/.548, and San Francisco doesn't have many bats on the bench.

This news also doesn't sound too promising.

Gregor Blanco said he talked with Pablo Sandoval after Panda's exit and said, "He’s down. He knows we really need him, and we hope he’s back soon." This is a left hand injury. Last year, he broke his right hamate bone and had surgery a year ago tomorrow.

The San Francisco Giants have been down right terrible with runners in scoring position this season, and it was looking like their RISP woes would continue on Wednesday night against the Miami Marlins. They showed a glimmer of hope in the ninth inning after forcing extra innings, but eventually would fall 3-2 in 10 innings at AT&T Park.

Barry Zito was hoping that his solid start would continue but showed some signs of wear in his last start, and was flat out off the mark this evening. Zito loaded the bases in the first, allowing Omar Infante to score on a fielder's choice grounder that should have been a double play. He got into trouble in the second inning as well, with Gaby Sanchez eventually scoring on a Joaquin Arias error.

Even though those runs weren't completely his fault, the rest of the runners on base were, giving up on earned run on seven walks and two hits in only 3.2 innings of work, tossing 91 pitches along the way.

Carlos Zambrano was dominant for Miami, owning the strike zone and the Giants hitters all night long. He blanked them for seven innings along with five hits, three walks and five strikeouts. Then their bullpen gave the Giants some life in the bottom of the ninth.

Brandon Belt got it started with a double off of Heath Bell, than scored after Joaquin Arias' timely single (finally). Then it was Buster Posey's turn, slapping a single for his first career pinch hit in his MLB career, putting runners at the corners with no outs. Brett Pill would strike out, followed by a perfect Gregor Blanco squeeze bunt scored Belt to tie the game 2-2.

Angel Pagan stepped in the box, after extending his league leading hit streak to 16 games after a single earlier in the game, but hit a chopper to third for the second out. Melky Cabrera's infield single loaded the bases, though Ryan Theriot would ground out up the middle to end the rally.

With the start of extras saw the end of available utility players for the Giants, but also saw the wind go out of their sails as Giancarlo Stanton hit a bullet home run over the left field wall to retake the lead 3-2. Miami's Steve Cishek went through the Giants lineup 1-2-3, closing out the win for Miami, their fifth in a row dating back to their last series at AT&T.

Belt, Arias and Cabrera each finished with multiple hits, while Hector Sanchez struggled with an 0-5 night with three strikeouts. San Francisco had 10 hits compared to Miami's five, while San Francisco finished 4-11 with RISP.

A couple of Giants call ups got some action tonight as Steve Edlefsen and Jeremy Affeldt's replacement Travis Blackley combined for 3.1 innings of work, each giving up one walk and one hit.

Pablo Sandoval would exit the game in the sixth after possibly suffering some sort of injury to his left hand. He's experiencing a 'good amount of pain' in the hand according to Bruce Bochy in the postgame press conference. Pablo missed about a month last year after breaking the hamate bone in his right hand on a swing late in April.

Thursday's finale will feature Ryan Vogelsong (0-1 4.19 ERA) taking on Anibal Sanchez (1-0 2.73 ERA) for the Marlins. First pitch is set for 12:45 p.m. PT.

History has told us that when the San Francisco Giants' Brandon Belt goes 0-4 including three roll-overs to the first baseman like he did last night against the Miami Marlins, skipper Bruce Bochy has opted for another bat in the lineup the next day. But that is only most of the time, as Belt gets another start Wednesday night as Buster Posey will take the night off.

With Aubrey Huff still out and righty Carlos Zambrano on the mound, Belt will get another shot at first base this evening, batting sixth. Hector Sanchez will catch Barry Zito once more, batting fifth, Gregor Blanco will bat leadoff, playing right field, pushing Angel Pagan and Melky Cabrera down a spot in the order. Joaquin Arias will move over to second base as both Ryan Theriot and Emmanuel Burriss will sit this evening.

An interesting lineup to say the least, an obvious move from Bruce Bochy to get as much speed on the field as possible to try and get out of their cavernous RISP slump they've been in this year, currently batting .193 as a squad including only 5-32 (.156) in their last four games.

Now in 2012, it was another freak accident that will place him on the shelf, as reported by CSN Bay Area on Tuesday.

Affeldt was injured while picking up his son Walker a few days ago, and after an MRI and a few examinations, the Giants decided to place him on the DL:

"When he jumped, I kind of caught him weird and my knee kind of shifted in a little bit and I felt some pressure on the knee," said Affeldt.

Affeldt is 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA this season.

Austrailian Native Travis Blackley has been called up to be his replacement replacement. So far he's been lights out for Fresno, sporting a 3-0 record with a minuscule 0.39 ERA in three starts and one relief appearance this season.
