For almost the entirety of Sunday's game between the Oakland Athletics and the Baltimore Orioles, it appeared as though Bartolo Colon was going to steamroll his way to yet another impressive win. That all changed in a hurry, as the A's gave up five runs to the home team in the bottom of the ninth, in what ended up being a walk-off 5-2 loss.

The game had no score until the top of the sixth inning, when Yoenis Cespedes doubled home Josh Reddick with two outs. In the top of the seventh, Seth Smith hit a leadoff homer to put Oakland on top, 2-0.

Colon was rolling until the bottom of the ninth inning. He allowed a leadoff single and struck out Nick Markakis, but managed a throwing error on another single to put the tying runs in scoring position with one out. Closer Grant Balfour was brought in to record the final two outs of the game, but served up a Matt Wieters double that tied the game. The A's intentionally walked Chris Davis to pitch to Wilson Betemit ... who hit a three-run homer to right-center field to give the O's the victory.

In all, Colon went 8.1 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out five while allowing just one walk. He had allowed just five hits and no runs until the bottom of the ninth. This is Balfour's second blown save and first loss of the season.

Oakland loses the series, two games to one, dropping to 11-12. The Orioles improve to a great 14-8 with the win.

After the Detroit Tigers dropped 34-year old infielder Brandon Inge from their lineup earlier in the week, many wondered if he would find a landing spot at all back in the big leagues. But, he apparently did with the Oakland Athletics, as being reported by Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Inge was just barely off the Bingo card after getting the axe in Detroit, sporting an even .100 batting average in 20 at bats along with one home, two RBI's, no walks and six strikeouts. He is a 234/.304/.387 career hitter in 12 major league seasons.

Hot hitting Brad Eldred was called up to take his spot, and that was that. Still, Inge remained a class-act, harboring no hard feelings towards the Tigers at all, knowing it was simply a business move.

"I could kind of see how things were going," Inge said. "But there are no hard feelings whatsoever. This is my family. This is where I've been my whole career. I'll miss the guys -- I will."

Now the A's have an aging corner-infielder struggling mightily at the plate on their roster amongst a litany of twenty-somethings like Jemile Weeks and Daric Barton. He's still known to have a quality glove though, and will certainly help shore up the a's defense on the hot corner.

Inge was on the hook for $5.5 Million plus a $500,000 buyout in 2013 to Detroit, but after clearing waivers it's still uncertain how much of that the A's will have to take care of.

On Friday, the Oakland Athletics were able to kick off their road trip with a win over the Baltimore Orioles. They did not fare nearly as well on Saturday, however, as the O's evened the series by demolishing the Oakland squad by a final score of 10-1.

Oakland starter Tyson Ross was hit hard right from the outset, as the Orioles piled on five runs in the bottom of the second inning, although all on singles and a sacrifice fly. They would stretch their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third on an RBI double and Ross was pulled after the fourth inning. The Baltimore hits kept on coming, however, as they tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The A's were in danger of being shut out 9-0 when Jonny Gomes hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 9-1, but the Orioles got that run back in the bottom of the seventh on a Chris Davis homer.

Oakland will still have a chance to pull of the series win as they attempt to take the rubber game on Sunday.

On Friday, the Oakland Athletics stretched their winning streak to three games as they defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 5-2. The A's will try to pick up their second straight series win over the weekend as they deal with the surprisingly formidable O's.

The Orioles scored in the bottom of the first inning on a Nick Markakis sacrifice fly, but that 1-0 score would be the last time the home team would have the lead. The A's scored three times in the top of the second, on a Kurt Suzuki RBI double and an Eric Sogard home run. That inning would prove to be the difference.

Josh Reddick had a solo home run of his own in the top of the sixth inning to stretch the score to 4-1. Adam Jones picked up an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, but that would be the last time the O's would score in the game. Reddick added an RBI single of his own in the eighth inning for another insurance run.

Brandon McCarthy picked up his first win of the year after going seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks, striking out four. Grant Balfour picked up his sixth save of the 2012 season.

The Oakland Athletics will kick off a road trip against the Baltimore Orioles. The first-place O's will be no pushovers.

The Oakland Athletics had to fight tooth and nail to take two out of three games from the Chicago White Sox at O.co Coliseum, but as they kick off a road trip on Friday, they'll hope to keep things rolling along. They'll first have to deal with a surprising Baltimore Orioles team that is currently on top of the American League East.

The A's had some terrific pitching performances over the past week, but have had problems with run support. They'll be hoping that Yoenis Cespedes enjoys hitting home runs even better on the road than his moon shots to straightaway center in the spacious confines of the Coliseum in Oakland. Some offensive contributions from other spots in the lineup wouldn't hurt, either.

Probable Pitchers and Game Times:

On Friday, Brandon McCarthy will look for his first win of the season, as he is currently 0-3 with a 3.38 ERA. He'll go up against Jake Arrieta, who is 1-1 with a 4.01 ERA. The game will begin at 4:05 p.m. ET and will be televised on CSN-California. You can listen to the radio broadcast on 95.7 The Game.

On Saturday, the 1-0 Tyson Ross will face off against Wei-Yin Chin, who is also 1-0, with a 2.60 ERA. The game will begin at 4:05 p.m. PT and will be televised on CSN-California. You can listen to the radio broadcast on 95.7 The Game.

Sunday's finale will pit Bartolo Colon, who so far has been Oakland's best pitcher, against the 2-1 Tommy Hunter. Hunter has a 4.74 ERA this season but has benefited from plenty of run support. The A's will be hoping to take advantage while Colon shuts the O's bats down. First pitch will be at 10:35 a.m. PT and the game will be televised on CSN-California. You can listen to the radio broadcast on 95.7 The Game.
