The Stanford Cardinal have had it rolling as of late, but ran into a buzzsaw in the form of the Oregon Ducks; well, the Ducks’ Devoe Joseph actually. Joseph would drop 30 big ones on the Cardinal, ensuring a 78-67 Ducks wins.

Joseph was 9-15 from the floor, including 5-7 from downtown, leading all scorers in the game this evening. Stanford’s Josh Owens dropped 19, while Aaron Bright added 14, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Ducks proved to be too much tonight at Matthew Knight Arena.

Oregon had just a two point lead at the half, but exploded in the second for 44 points, blowing past Stanford in the process. The Cardinal also bailed Oregon out by sending them to the line 26 times, compared to the nine free throws taken for the Card.

With the loss the Cardinal move to 12-3 on the year, and 2-1 in Pac-12 play.

The Stanford Cardinal men's basketball team hosted the USC Trojans on Saturday evening at the Maples Pavilion, in the second Pac-12 game for both teams. Stanford was able to pick up the win, 51-43. They are now 2-0 within conference play and hold a 12-2 record overall.

The story of the evening was the inconsistency from USC. The Trojans shot just 34.8% from the field in the game. The fact that the 34.8% is their third best FG% performance in December should tell you a little bit about how mightily USC has been struggling as of late.

The Cardinal trailed by eight points early in the game, but were able to bounce back. They headed to halftime up by a score of 31-25 and never looked back. Stanford guard Aaron Bright led all scorers with a career-high 16 points, seven of which came in the last five minutes of play. Josh Owens finished the night with 12 points, also picking up eight rebounds.

The Stanford Cardinal got out to a 10-2 start in non-conference play this season. The UCLA Bruins have won their last three games in a row and are looking to regain their previous UCLA glory. And in a tightly contested match from the tip, it was the Cardinal that would eventually prevail thanks to a Josh Huestis' block at the end of regulation to keep the Bruins at bay, taking their first game of conference play 60-59 at Maples Pavilion Thursday night.

Sophomore guard Aaron Bright lead the way for the Cardinal (11-2, 1-0), scoring 16 points in 33 minutes, including going 4-8 from downtown. Chasson Randle had a rough night from the floor, shooting only 3-12 for the game, but still finished with 10 points, while Josh Owens added nine and eight boards. John Gage added 10 off the bench.

The Bruins (7-6, 0-1) were in it all night, finishing the first half the same way the did the game; one point behind. Senior guard Lazeric Jones led all scorers with a career high 26 points, including 4-6 from three point land. Jones unfortunately was the one who got stuffed by Huestis at the end of the game, a bit of a sour note to his highlight night.

Stanford insider Kyle Bonagura also tweeted before the game that guard Gabriel Harris will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. We wish him a speedy recovery.

The Stanford Cardinal had a great opportunity to show to the college basketball nation they were ready to be respected by winning a game against a semi-impressive opponent. But the Butler Bulldogs have been through the rounds before, while Stanford is still learning to win as a team.

Butler isn't the same team they were when they went to two national championship games in a row the previous two seasons, as they were only 5-7 before this contest. But they relied on their always reliable three point shooting, knocking 10 of 23 from downtown to give them a decided advantage from the outside. Ronald Nored put up 18 points thanks to three three-pointers and five of nine shooting, Jackson Aldridge added 15 points on five of seven shooting. That three point shooting, added in with tough Butler defense, helped the Bulldogs overcome an early deficit, and they took a solid lead in the second half and held off a late Stanford rally.

Most of the Cardinal players had strong performances, particularly Josh Owens with 17 points and Chasson Randle with 16 points. But Stanford's three point defense fell apart, and it ended up being the difference in this one.

The Stanford Cardinal hosted the San Diego Toreros on Saturday night. The Stanford men's team remained perfect at home, improving to 6-0 in Stanford and 9-1 overall with a dominating 75-55 win.

Stanford passed the ball around and gave the entire team a chance to contribute in Saturday's game. All players but one who saw floor time in the game recorded a rebound and all players but two scored a point. Josh Owens led scorers with 17 points. Chasson Randle picked up 15 points and Anthony Brown scored nine.

Stanford shot 56.6 percent in the second half. The team is off to its strongest start since 2008-09. If the keep continues playing at this level, it will be difficult to justify excluding them from the Top 25 for much longer.

The Cardinal will hit the road next to take on the South Alabama Jaguars. That game will be on Thursday, December 22.

Where are the Bears and Cardinal projected to end up?

March Madness may still be months away, but the first projected brackets of the year are slowly but surely starting to come out. While these projections are just in good fun this time of year -- heck, we're still weeks away from conference play, let alone the tournament -- it is fun to see where the experts expect your favorite team to end up.

For those of you who support teams in the Bay Area, both the Stanford Cardinal and California Golden Bears are currently projected to earn a solid seed, according to ESPN's Joe Lunardi.

The 'Bracketologist' has the Cardinal as a No. 6 seed in the East region. They would hypothetically face the Wichita State Shockers in the first round, and would then likely face the No. 3 Baylor Bears.

The Golden Bears are projected for a No. 8 seed in the West region, where they would face the Vanderbilt Commodores. Should California win, they would likely face the hated Duke Blue Devils in the Round of 32.

There was only one other Pac-12 team (Arizona) to make the bracket. One has to expect the Washington Huskies to be on the next round of teams primed to enter the field of 68.

The Stanford Cardinal found themselves down big to the North Carolina State Wolfpack Sunday afternoon at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, but rallied late to steal the victory by the score of 76-72.

Josh Owens scored 19 points while Chasson Randle added 16 to help rally the Card from a a 12-point deficit in the second half, leading the charge on a 17-1 run in the final six minutes of play that push Stanford (8-1) ahead for the first and final time of the game. Owens scored 10 points during the run, Randle dropped four free throws, and the Card remain perfect at home this season.

C.J. Williams had 18 points to lead the Wolfpack (5-3), while C.J. Leslie added 14, though the Wolfpack blew double-digt leads in both halves of the game. North Carolina State extended their winless streak against Pac-12 opponents on the road, who now haven’t beaten one in the last 18 years.
