Jeff Tedford is no longer letting just California Golden Bears fans down with his most recent efforts. He's letting his greatest pupil down too.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers apparently made a bet with linebacker Clay Matthews (USC Trojans alum) on the result of last week's USC-Cal game. Aaron's team wins, Clay has to do something to show he's a sturdy Golden Bear. Clay's team wins, Aaron has to Fight On.

We all know how this turned out.

(Thanks to Arash Markazi on WhoSay)

Horrifying. Totally and utterly horrifying. How Tedford could let this happen? HOW?

Hopefully Aaron can keep on performing at a high level in the league to wash this nasty stench of Trojan red off of his bleeding blue and gold heart. Some things are just too horrifying to picture.

Apparently Marvin Jones has been playing with some significant injuries in one of the most important part of a wide receiver's body. Jones tweeted that he has torn finger ligaments for the past three weeks after the game, which you'd have to guess can hinder his ability to catch the football despite what Jones may argue to the contrary.

Jones has performed fairly well as Keenan Allen's partner-in-crime, hauling in 35 catches for 530 yards, and combined they're probably the most potent duo in the country. Jones and Allen have struggled with hanging onto the football at times, partly due to accuracy issues by Zach Maynard, partly due to their own mental errors, and it looks like Jones has an injury to fall back on when you lament his drops.

Don't expect this injury to significantly impact how much time Jones sees on the field. He's been able to play at a high level with the injury, and he should continue to be one of the top two options even with the occasional drop.

The California Golden Bears played the USC Trojans pretty strongly on the statsheet. Cal actually had as many first downs as USC (18), piled up more yards (329 to 313), and put up similar offensive stats all over the board. The Cal defense held Matt Barkley down to 195 passing yards, and the secondary guarded Robert Woods and the Trojan receiving corps pretty tightly.

But Zach Maynard kept on giving the ball back to USC.

Maynard threw three interceptions and nearly threw another several as he telegraphed his reads to Marvin Jones and Keenan Allen. Maynard also fumbled the ball once when he got blasted off the edge, and was responsible for another botched handoff with Michael Calvin that turned into another interception. USC needed to drive only 62 yards to put up 20 of their 30 points, and that was all USC needed to cruise to an easy Thursday night victory in AT&T Park.

Cal continues to show glimmers of their potential offensively. But Maynard's turnovers kept them from doing anything real important.

The California Golden Bears played one of their worst halves of the season against the USC Trojans and currently trail 20-0 as the third quarter gets underway.

Turnovers have plagued the Bears and their inability to slow down Matt Barkley has led to the big deficit. After two fumbles in the first quarter, quarterback Zach Maynard threw two interceptions, one of which came deep in their own territory. Cal has just thirty rushing yards on 18 attempts and the offensive line has not provided any protection for the backfield.

For USC, after a slow start to the game, Barkley threw two touchdowns in the second quarter, including a 39-yard completion to Marqise Lee. Brandon Carswell also hauled in a reception for a seven-yard touchdown in the final minutes of the half. Curtis McNeal has picked up the Trojans' running game and had recorded 53 yards on just seven carries.

Now on their first drive on the third quarter, USC is driving the ball down the field and is in the red zone. This game could be over in a hurry unless Cal's offense wakes up.

Sloppy play, poor execution and turnovers slowed the Cal Bears in the first quarter against the USC Trojans. In all honesty, the team should feel pretty fortunate to only trail by a field goal.

The only offense of the game came on that afore mentioned field goal. After stalling near red zone, place-kicker Andre Heidari nailed a 39-yard field goal with six minutes remaining in the quarter. Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley has had trouble with the California secondary and has completed eight passes for 72 yards. USC has just two rushing yards on seven attempts.

The Bears have been able to move the ball relatively well, but two fumbles have cost the team a chance to score early. Zach Maynard is 5-for-7 with 43 passing yards thus far. Isi Sofele is off to a strong start and has accumulated 32 rushing yards on just six caries.

Oh, and USC also ran this formation in the first quarter:

Fun stuff.

With 12 minutes remaining in the half, Cal is deep in their own territory.

This isn't exactly the Jim Harbaugh toilet, but it's still worth taking a look-see at where the man who leads the California Golden Bears gets his rest after a long day of football practice.
Sleeping in the office is nothing new for Tedford, long known as a football workaholic. It took him nearly a decade to finally get the renovated facilities he always wanted, but it appears old habits die hard for the coach.

At least he's moved from the inflatable bed to something more solid.

The California Golden Bears are out to stop their two game losing streak this Thursday as they host the dangerous USC Trojans at AT&T Park, though will have a bit of a hole to fill in their secondary as cornerback Marc Anthony is listed as doubtful this week.

Anthony's shoulder injury he suffered in Cal's loss up in Oregon last week has not been healing like the team had hoped, leading the coaching staff to downgrade him to doubtful. Coming into this Thursday's matchup the junior currently is sixth on the team with 16 tackles, likely to be replaced by freshman Stefan McClure if he can't go.

This injury comes at the same time that USC will likely be getting wide receivers Kyle Prater and Marqise Lee back from injury, meaning that Cal will have to make some defensive adjustments as they prepare for both of them likely to play.
