Ryan Vogelsong hadn’t won a game for the San Francisco Giants since the 14th of August, and headed to Coors Field looking to end that streak. And thanks to a historic night for Pablo Sandoval and a few defensive miscues for the Colorado Rockies, Vogelsong and the Giants triumphed by a score of 8-5.

Pablo became only the 10th San Francisco Giant to hit for the cycle, starting the game off with a two run bomb in the first, followed by a single in the second. His double to left field in the fifth got everyone’s attention, and when Carlos Gonzalez misplayed a fly ball off the wall, Pablo hustled around and slid into third to complete his perfect 4-4 night.

Cody Ross’ RBI groundout in the second started the Giants next rally, followed by Jeff Keppinger’s sac fly and an error from Jordan Pacheco plated Ross to make it 5-0 G-Men. Mark Ellis RBI single in the third and Pacecho’s homer in the fourth got the Rox on the board, and they would make it interesting down the stretch.

San Francisco had stretched their lead to 7-2 by the seventh when Colorado staged a big comeback with three runs in the inning, highlighted by a Chris Iannetta blast, his 13th of the season. Brandon Belt gave the Giants a bit of insurance with a solo shot in the eighth, giving them jsut enough cushion to finish off the Rockies comfortably.

Vogelsong (W 11-7) had some long innings in the thin air at Coors Field, lasting only 5 and 1/3 innings while throwing 104 pitches. He limited the damage to two runs on four hits, along with four walks and eight strikeouts; definitely a higher number of K’s than usual for him.

Steve Edlefsen struggled in his 2/3 innings of work, allowing three runs, but Dan Runzler, Ramon Ramierez, and Santiago Casilla held it down from there, with Casilla earning his 4th save of the season.

With the win the GIants move to 80-70 on the year. Full box score can be found here.

The last month has been rough on the San Francisco Giants, but Pablo Sandoval hitting for the cycle will give everyone something to cheer about. The third baseman is now the 10th San Francisco Giant to accomplish the feat and is the 25th in franchise history to record a single, double, triple, and home run in one game.

In 2011, Brewers catcher George Kattaras is the only other player to record a cycle. The last Giant to do it was Fred Lewis in 2007, which also came in Coors Field.

As for Sandoval, the slugger hit a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Giants an early 2-0 lead. He singled in the second and started the fourth inning with a double on a soft line drive to left field. The Panda completed the cycle in the sixth with a deep fly ball to right field. While it originally looked as if the ball would clear the fence, it bounced off the wall and was nearly caught by Carlos Gonzalez. Dashing around the bases, Pablo slid head-first into third base and beat the throw easily.

Despite being a road game, many San Francisco fans were in attendance and they cheered loudly for their all-star third baseman.

As for the game itself, the Giants have dominated and currently lead 7-2 in the seventh inning. Ryan Vogelsong pitched well and recorded eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Sandoval should get at least one more at-bat as he looks to record his fifth hit of the night.

The San Francisco Giants are in the Mile High city to take on the Rockies for a four game set, fresh off their sweep of the Padres at AT&T. They still haven’t been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs quite yet, though the Braves and Diamonbacks don’t look to be slowing down any time soon. Nevertheless, the show must go on, and the G-Men are looking to get a serious W streak rolling…

As for the lineup skipper Bruce Bochy is keeping it the same as Wednesday, aside from Ryan Vogelsong taking the bump. He’s currently lost he last five starts in a row, which mirrored with his first half of the season seems like a train wreck. But taking a closer look, it’s obviously the offense, with a total of four runs of combined support in those five losses.

With just a glimmer of hope still shining on their playoff chances the San Francisco Giants took an important step on Thursday, actually finishing off a series with a sweep. It wasn’t easy though as Mat Latos of the San Diego Padres and Tim Lincecum dueled it out all afternoon long, but it eventually was Carlos Beltran’s double-bomb day as well as a bit more magic from Mark DeRosa that gave the G-Men the 3-1 victory.

Lincecum (W 13-12) and Latos (L 7-14) each threw seven strong innings for their respective clubs, though Timmy’s would up just a tad bit stronger. He allowed only the one run on four hits, along with two walks and six strikeouts while Latos gave up three runs on seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Latos unfortunately gave up a costly mistake to Carlos Beltran not once but twice, allowing two home runs to the switch hitting slugger, with Carlos’ second shot finding it’s way into McCovey Cove for the 59th time is AT&T Park history. Beltran now has 20 homers on the year, and an even 300 on his career thus far.

Mark DeRosa was Tuesday night’s hero after the walkoff single, but came back Wednesday with another hard liner that found the outfield grass, plating Andres Torres to give the team that little bit of cushion against the pesky Padres. The two Brandon’s, Belt and Crawford, each finished 1-3 on the day, with Belt notching a double.

Santiago Casilla get his third save of the year with his perfect ninth inning or work, while Sergio Romo got his 21st hold on the year with his work in the eighth.

According to the San Jose Mercury News' Mark Purdy managing partner and CEO of the San Francisco Giants Bill Neukom is set to exit stage right in December, leaving his post with the franchise he helped bring a world championship to just a season ago.

Neukom's 'retirement' is scheduled to go into effect December 31, 2011 when current team President Larry Bear will assume duties as CEO. In the public eye there seemed to be no problem internally with the Giants, but after Neukom was asked to step down by the 10 person Executive Committee of team owners recently, obviously there was a discord mainly visible from inside out. The Giants' ownership structure features 32 "principal partners," but all the power comes from the Executive Committee; the owners with the most money in the team. This committee appoints the Giants' managing general partner, who is the frontman for the franchise and takes care of day-to-day activities.

Neukom's falling-out with the Executive Committee, according to sources, began over how to spend the additional millions of dollars that flowed into team after their World Series championship in 2010. Neukom, according to report, believed that this was his money to spend as he felt necessary-- which he did and then some- while the Executive Board wanted to put it into a 'rainy-day' type fund for when the team wasn't as flush with cash.

The team will hold a press conference at 11 am on Thursday to make the official announcement, where Neukom is said to become chairman emeritus, basically a glorified retiree who still can come in the office and fiddle with things. Sad to see it have to come removing power from somebody, especially someone who wrote 'The Giants' Way' as a sort of blueprint on how to be part of the organization. Hopefully it will be for the best for both Nuekom and the Giants themselves in the long run.

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) – Mark DeRosa ripped the game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning to send the San Francisco Giants to a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres in the middle test of a three game series at AT&T Park.

Cody Ross began the rally with a single up the middle off Brad Brach (0-2) and moved to second on a wild pitch. After Andres Torres popped out, Padres manager Bud Black chose to intentionally walk Carlos Beltran to put runners on first and second. Ross then moved to third on a fielder’s choice by Pablo Sandoval, which brought DeRosa to the plate.

He ripped a line drive to second, which hit just off the top of the glove of Orlando Hudson and rolled into short right field, allowing Ross to trot home with the winning run.

Ramon Ramirez (3-3) tossed a scoreless top of the 12th to earn the win.

Sandoval finished 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored, Beltran had three hits and Ross added a pair for the Giants, who have won three straight but remain 8 1/2 games behind the NL West-leading Diamondbacks and 6 1/2 behind the wild- card leading Braves.

Jason Bartlett accounted for the Padres’ only runs with a two-run double and Nick Hundley added two hits for San Diego, which has lost five of its last six.

Trailing 2-0, the Padres plated a pair of runs in the seventh. Pinch-hitter Kyle Blanks reached on a fielder’s choice and Aaron Cunningham ripped a double into the left-field gap to give San Diego runners on second and third with two outs. Giants manager Bruce Bochy summoned Guillermo Mota from the bullpen to face Bartlett, who came through with a game-tying double.

San Diego got the go-ahead run into scoring position in the ninth against Sergio Romo when Hudson ripped a single to center and moved to second on a well-placed sacrifice bunt by James Darnell, but Romo fanned Blanks and pinch- hitter Jeremy Hermida to keep the game tied.

In the 11th, Chris Denorfia slapped a one-out single and stole second to get into scoring position with two outs. Darnell walked to put two men on for Blanks. The Padres were unable to capitalize however, as Blanks struck out to end the inning.

“Our bullpen did a really good job tonight,” Bochy said. “We needed them.”

San Francisco drew blood in their first at-bat. Ross beat out an infield single to start the frame and advanced to third on a double by Beltran. Ross then crossed the plate on a single to left by Sandoval to give the Giants the early lead.

San Diego put the tying run at third in the second inning when Hundley smacked a one-out single, stole second and moved to third on a groundout by Denorfia. Hundley was left there however, as Giants starter Matt Cain struck out Hudson to end the inning.

The Giants widened their lead with a run in the fourth to make it 2-0. Sandoval led off the frame with a single to left and Brett Pill slapped one back up the middle to put two men on with no outs. Following a strikeout from Orlando Cabrera, Justin Christian blooped a ball into center field to plate Sandoval. San Francisco had a chance to tack on further with runners on second and third and one down, but Eli Whiteside fouled out and Cain struck out to end the inning.

Game Notes

The Giants are 3-2 on their current six-game homestand…San Diego leads the majors in stolen bases with 160…Cain worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits while fanning six and walking three…Padres starter Corey Luebke gave up two runs on 10 hits over six innings while striking out eight without walking a batter…Romo extended his scoreless streak to 18 2/3 innings.

After two nights in a row of solid offense from the San Francisco Giants, they’ll look to keep the trend going for Matt Cain tonight against the San Diego Padres.

Cain leads the National League thus far in quality starts with 24, and is 10-5 when doing so this season; couple that with the possibility of some run support and you have all the makings for a W.

Cody Ross will lead off again, but play left field instead of center this evening. Brett Pill will be at first base batting fifth, Orlando Cabrera at shortstop batting sixth, and Justin Christian in center batting seventh. Eli Whiteside will be the backstop this evening for Matt Cain.

For the second straight night at AT&T Park the San Francisco Giants put eight runs on the board, but weren't out to play small ball against the San Diego Padres. The Black and Orange launched three shots into the night sky, lifting rookie Eric Surkamp for his second straight victory over the Pads by a score of 8-3.

Carlos Beltran started the show off with a two run bomb in the first, his 18th of the year. Cody Ross would counter with a shot of his own in the third, finishing the night 3-4 with a walk and two RBI, while Pablo Sandoval would add his team leading 19th dinger in the seventh just for good measure. Aubrey Huff would contribute as well, slapping an RBI single in the third as well.

As for Surkamp (W 2-0), he can credit Bud Black's squad for his first two wins of his career, lasting for five and 2/3 innings of three run ball, allowing seven hits while walking one along the way. As for Padres starter Aaron Harang (L 13-6) his night was over after the fifth, allowing four Giants runs on six hits with two walks and four punch outs.
