On a beautiful afternoon at AT&T Park the San Francisco Giants were looking for a sweep of the rival Los Angeles Dodgers, but unfortunately Clayton Kershaw was having none of it. Tim Lincecum pitched very well for the Black and Orange, but not as well as Kershaw as he fanned 12 Giants, leading to the eventual 1-0 win over the defending World Champs.

Lincecum (L 8-8) took a very hard loss this afternoon after throwing seven full innings of one run ball, keeping the dodgers to only five hits along with four walks and seven strikeouts; now only 12 K's shy of tying Jason Schmidt for third all time on the San Francisco Giants strikeout list. The lone mistake Timmy made was to Dionner Navarro, blasting his third home run of the season in the seventh inning and putting the boys in blue up for good.

As for Kershaw (W 11-4), he was absolutely lights out in his eight innings of work, allowing only three hits with one walk and a very impressive 12 punch outs. There are few that can out pitch Tim Lincecum in his own ballpark, especially when Timmy throws a game like this. But Kershaw is a legitimate Cy Young candidate this season in the NL, and is one of the lone bright spots on the Dodgers pitching staff this year.

The Giants offense obviously remained stagnent today, although they had a few opportunities to score after leaving four runners in scoring position as well as not taking advantage of three Dodgers errors on the day. Chris Stewart and Emmanuel Burriss were the lone Giants to get hits, although Stewart went 2-3.

With the loss the Giants move to 57-42 on the year. Full box score can be found here.

The San Francisco Giants are on the verge of a sweep against their rival Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday afternoon, and have their ace on the mound in Tim Lincecum. But the Dodgers have their top dog out there as well, Clayton Kershaw, likely setting up a terrific pitcher’s duel at AT&T Park.

Third baseman Pablo Sandoval came out of the game early Tuesday night with tightness in his quad, so the team has left him out of the lineup today, moving Mike Fontenot over to third base. Aaron Rowand will start in left field, while Cody Ross will be in right and bat clean up to give Nate Schierholtz a day off. Brandon Belt and Emmanuel Burriss will cover the right half of the diamond, while Chris Stewart will be behind the plate to catch Timmy.

Brandon Belt had been swinging a big stick down in triple-A Fresno, and was telling everyone he was ready upon his return with the San Francisco Giants. Belt made good in his return to the big leagues, plating three runs including a homer, backing up Madison Bumgarner's great outing as the Giants triumphed 5-3 at AT&T Park.

Bumgarner (W 5-9) was stellar in his eight innings pitched Tuesday night, aside from a shaky third inning where he allowed RBI hits from Tony Gwynn and Rafael Furcal. He didn't allow another baserunner the rest his night, finishing with four hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts while throwing 105 pitches. Bumgarner controlled the strike zone very well, keeping the Dodgers off balance and keeping them off the base paths; definitely one of his more impressive starts of the season thus far.

As for the offense it was all about Brandon Belt tonight, launching his second big league homer and first at AT&T in the second, followed a Bumgarner's RBI ground out, his first RBI of the season. Pablo Sandoval broke up the 3-3 tie in the fifth with an RBI single up the middle, then Brandon Belt struck again in the seventh, smoking a bullet down the left field line plating Andres Torres and pinch runner Emmanuel Burriss.

Brian Wilson came in for the save in the ninth, allowing a two out single to Matt Kemp on a ten pitch at bat but nothing more, earning his 29th of the year.

With the win the Giants move to 57-41 on the year. Full box score can be found here.

The Giants will go for the sweep tomorrow as Tim Lincecum (8-7 2.99 ERA) takes the mound against Clayton Kershaw (10-4 2.88 ERA) in a battle of the aces. First pitch is set for 12:45 pm PT with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.

Another on bites the dust for the San Francisco Giants.

The San Francisco Giants have placed infielder Miguel Tejada on the disabled list with a lower abdominal strain. Tejada had an MRI taken Tuesday afternoon that revealed the strain to be worse than first thought. The move will ensure that San Francisco won’t have to send catcher Hector Sanchez back to the minors.

In other news, skipper Bruce Bochy said that the team will skip Barry Zito’s next scheduled start against the Brewers on Friday. Matt Cain will take his place, but will still pitch on regular rest due to an off day Thursday. Zito was rocked in San Diego on Saturday, giving up eight earned runs in just three and 2/3 innings, and has a less than stellar track record against the Brew Crew (2-4 4.73 ERA lifetime).

Lastly, Brandon Belt hit his first home run at AT&T Park in the second inning of Tuesday’s game, his second of his major league career.

The San Francisco Giants have had a flurry of roster moves already today, with the biggest news the acquisition of infielder Jeff Keppinger from the Astros. But some more important news for Giants fans (and the Giants offense hopefully) is that they have recalled Brandon Belt from triple-A Fresno and will start at first base tonight.

Belt was the Pacific Coast League player of the week for July 14-17, Belt had an off-the-charts .632 on-base-percentage, and hit the game-winning HR in the Grizzlies’ 3-2 win on July 14. In 43 games for the Grizz this season, Belt is batting .324 with seven home runs and 29 RBI.

The Giants also sent catcher Hector Sanchez back to Fresno today. He saw time in only three games with the Giants, going 0-3 with a walk.

As for the lineup tonight Mike Fontenot will be at second, batting second, while Nate Schierholtz will bat clean up once again and start in right field. Brandon Crawford will start at shortstop, while Eli Whiteside will be behind the dish to catch Madison Bumgarner this evening.

August is right around the corner, but the San Francisco Giants still have one thing left to do before they can fully put their 2010 championship season in their rear view mirror; a visit to see the White House and President Barack Obama.

The Giants will make their stop in our Nation's capital on Monday July 25, making a short detour before they take on the Phillies for a three game set in the city of brotherly love. The team will make it's honorary tour of the White House, have a meet and greet with President Obama, and give the customary championship jersey to the 44th President of the United States.

The players are especially excited to make the trip, but also know what the trip means to their 2011 season. This is the last nostalgic ceremony of their championship season, and afterward can get back to the task at hand of defending their title. Here's what Cody Ross had to say about it:

"Almost as soon as the last out of the World Series was made, the thought crossed my mind, `Wow, we get to go to the White House, shake the president's hand and present him with a jersey,' " said outfielder Cody Ross. "It's been a long time coming and I think everybody's excited. It's the last thing we have to do to finally seal the 2010 season."

Emmanuel Burriss, a Washington D.C. native, knows how much it means to actually meet President Obama:

"I went there as a kid and I went there with some teammates back in 2009," Burriss said. "But it's different this time because the President will be there and we get to meet him."

Skipper Bruce Bochy was asked about what closer Brian Wilson might wear to the White House, possibly the spandex tuxedo he donned at the ESPY Awards:

"He may have to break it out. But I don't know if they'll let him in wearing that."

Neither do I.

The San Francisco Giants started off their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers on the right foot Monday night, and now turn to Madison Bumgarner to clinch the series with their NL West rivals at AT&T Park.

Bumgarner (4-9 3.74 ERA) had a strong outing Thursday down in San Diego against the Padres, earning a no decision in an eventual 6-2 win for the Giants. Bummy held the Pads to only one run on seven hits along with no walks in his six innings of work, the sixth time this year he's allowed only one run in his starts.

The Dodgers will send out their young up-an-comer Rubby De La Rosa (3-4 3.74 ERA) who is coming off of arguably his best start since joining the boys in blue. He unfortunately got a no decision during a 1-0 Dodgers win July 9 against the Padres, giving up only one hit in six innings of work along with a season-high eight punch outs for the 22 year old Dominican right-hander.

The Giants have now sold out 54 straight games at AT&T Park dating back to last season, with all 44 of them so far this year at full capacity. Something tells me it will be full again tonight.

First pitch is set for 7:15 pm PT this evening with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.

Anticipation was high for both fan bases of the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers Monday night as they renewed their rivalry on the shores of McCovey Cove. The Black and Orange came ready to play in front of another sold out crowd, and behind another superb outing from Ryan Vogelsong and a balanced offensive attack lead by Pablo Sandoval, the Giants shutout the Dodgers by a score of 5-0.

Vogelsong (W 7-1) showed why he was a National League All-Star this season by throwing six and 2/3 of scoreless ball, along with seven hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. Vogey brought his game face tonight, making good adjustments when need be, all the while keeping the Dodgers bats to just one extra base hit the whole night. Jeremy Affeldt and Ramon Ramirez finished up the rest of the game, keeping the boys in blue hitless along the way.

Pablo Sandoval's solo shot in the fourth gave the Giants the lead and tied him with Aubrey Huff for a team high nine dingers. Nate Schierholtz and Cody Ross started a sixth inning rally with a pair of RBI base hits, followed by a Brandon Crawford RBI single to give the Giants the 5-0 lead. Both Ross and Schierholtz finsihed 2-4 on the night, while Pablo Sandoval was 3-4 with two runs scored.

Chad Billingsley (L 8-8) was cruising along until Pablo's homer, then came a bit unraveled as he allowed all five of the Giants runs on nine hits in five and 1/3 innings. He didn't walk a single batter though, and fanned four Giants along the way as well.

The injury bug has once again bit the Giants as Miguel Tejada left the game in the third with a lower abdominal strain, while Chris Stewart left after being hit in the head by Aaron Miles' backswing while behind the plate. Both are thought to be day-to-day injuries.

With the win the Giants move to 56-41 on the year. Full box score can be found here.
