Chicago, IL (Sports Network) – Derrick Rose and Kyle Korver both finished with 18 points, leading a balanced and potent attack the Bulls used to rout the Kings, 132-92, at United Center.

The Bulls were in fine form Monday, shooting better than 61 percent and getting double-digit scoring contributions from eight players. Luol Deng had 17 points, while Carlos Boozer returned from a five-game absence to net 16.

Chicago also scored 35 points off 22 Sacramento turnovers, drilled 12 three- pointers, and recorded season highs in points and assists (34). The dominance is hard to distill into one statistic.

“We are winning games, playing good basketball. The city is going crazy,” Rose said of this season’s success.

Simply put, the Bulls showed they are one of the NBA’s best teams, even while beating one of the league’s worst. Marcus Thornton had 25 points to lead the 17-52 Kings.

“Some of that is experience, some of that is execution, some of that is poor fundamentals and we have to improve in all areas,” said Kings head coach Paul Westphal.

Chicago improved to 50-19 with the win, keeping pace with Boston atop the Eastern Conference. The Celtics held the same record after beating the Knicks on Monday.

The Bulls had not won 50 games since the 1997-98 season, which is also the last time they won the NBA title.

Chicago held just a 34-28 lead after one quarter, but took control in the second, when it made 9-of-14 field goals and made 10 free throws.

The Bulls scored nine of the period’s first 11 points, grabbing a 43-30 advantage on back-to-back buckets from Deng and Ronnie Brewer. Korver hit a pair of threes late in the half to help Chicago roll into the break with a 64-47 advantage.

It continued scoring at a high rate in the third quarter, making 57 percent from the floor to push the lead above 20.

Joakim Noah closed the period with a dunk to make it a 98-72 contest, and Chicago didn’t let up in the fourth while employing its bench. Omer Asik and C.J. Watson both scored 11 in the frame to help the Bulls cruise to their 13th consecutive home victory.

Before the season, the Kings and Sixers engaged in a trade that sent Samuel Dalembert to Sacramento and Spencer Hawes and Andres Nocioni to Philadelphia. Dalembert was supposed to help anchor the Kings defense as they improved from last year while the Sixers were rumored to begin the rebuilding process.

My how things change.

The Kings are now sitting at a record of 16-51 after this loss to Philadelphia, while the Sixers, a team with faint playoff hopes before the season, moved past the Knicks for 6th place in the Eastern Conference.

The Sixers got an early lead and never let up, outscoring Sacramento by at least 8 points in each of the first three quarters. Jrue Holiday led the way for Philadelphia, scoring 15 points (all in the first half) to go with 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. His defense was also instrumental in holding Marcus Thornton to his lowest point total as a Kings (7 points on just 3-12 from the field). Thornton also had a game-high 6 turnovers, as the Sixers were very active in the passing lanes, snagging a season-high 16 steals.

Sacramento failed to find a reliable scoring option for most of the game. Rookie big man DeMarcus Cousins did not score a field goal in the first half, and missed his first 7. Most of those attempts were out of the paint, shooting jumpers. He came into the 2nd half looking to take it inside more and did not miss again, finishing 6-13 from the field for 19 points. He also had 12 rebounds and 3 assists.

This ends a disappointing homestand for the Kings, who go on a 5 game road trip beginning Sunday in Minnesota. In good news though, star Tyreke Evans will likely be back soon according to Head Coach Paul Westphal.

In a season of lows for the Sacramento Kings on the basketball court, this was probably the lowest. For more, check out Sactown Royalty.

Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) – Ramon Sessions made the game-winning layup with 18.1 seconds remaining, as the Cleveland Cavaliers snuck past the Sacramento Kings, 97-93, in a battle between two of the NBA’s worst teams.

Sessions ended with 20 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Cavaliers, who snapped a four-game skid. J.J. Hickson donated 17 points and eight boards.

Luke Harangody chipped in with 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench for Cleveland, which is an NBA-worst 13-53 on the season. They are also 5-28 on the road.

“It’s amazing what happens when you compete,” Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott said. “I told the guys before the game that, I know that I have been very critical of us the last couple of games. I just pretty much told them the three things I expect each and every night and the things they should do each and every night, no matter what our record is, no matter what the situation is.”

Marcus Thornton finished with 23 points for the Kings, who are a Western Conference-worst 16-50. Samuel Dalembert tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Dalembert’s layup with 1:56 to play gave Sacramento a 91-90 edge. At the other end, Dalembert caused a charge on Samardo Samuels. Francisco Garcia failed to take advantage for the Kings, missing a three-pointer.

Samuels made 1-of-2 from the foul line to tie the game with 1:21 to go. Beno Udrih responded with a layup at the opposite end to give Sacramento a 93-91 lead.

J.J. Hickson was off the mark with a jumper, but Harangody grabbed the offensive rebound and was fouled. He made two free throws to tie things up with 40.9 seconds remaining.

DeMarcus Cousins was then called for a charge, giving the ball back to the Cavs. Sessions made a reverse layup to give Cleveland a two-point edge with 18.1 ticks left.

After Cousins missed a layup, Alonzo Gee made two free throws to seal the victory.

“A lot of things played into them taking the lead,” Cousins said. “I am not going to sit here and blame this team. A lot of things had to do with it. We have to play through it and keep playing.”

The Kings held a 28-18 edge after 12 minutes of action, but the Cavaliers cut the gap to 51-45 at the half.

Cleveland surged ahead early in the third quarter, but Sacramento held a 74-73 lead heading to the fourth.

Cleveland has won 10 of the last 12 meetings with the Kings…Cavaliers guard Baron Davis (personal) missed the game…Cleveland had lost 27 of its last 28 on the road coming into Wednesday’s game…Cousins had 11 points and 16 rebounds…Samuels tallied 13 points…The Cavs shot 51.4 percent from the field…The Kings went 9-of-23 from beyond the arc.

Marcus Thornton has probably been the biggest bright spot for the Sacramento Kings since he was traded from the New Orleans Hornets for the constantly misplaced Carl Landry. Thornton has been the team's leading scorer since he arrived, and it should be no surprise he lit up the Golden State Warriors for 42 points on 13 of 20 shooting, four four seven from three point land, 12 for 14 from the line, plus four steals.

But you know it's been a good night for Sacramento when Samuel Dalembert got his offense going too. Sammy D racked up 27 points (10 of 16 field goal shooting), 16 rebounds, and two blocks as he totally overwhelmed Golden State's meager frontline. DeMarcus Cousins added 15 points and 9 rebounds and Francisco Garcia contributed 13 points and 6 assists, while Beno Udrih chipped in with nine dimes. Sacramento led by 15 after one period, put up 71 points on the board in the first half, and led 107-84 after three periods. Despite some hot Golden State shooting in spurts, they had nothing on defense to stop the Kings.

The Sacramento Kings have not yet won at home since Arco Arena was named Power Balance Pavilion. They have been in a funk ever since Tyreke Evans got injured, and are mired in a six game losing streak. They've given up over 100 points on a daily basis, as their team defense has continued to erode. Playing top-tier teams like the Portland Trailblazers, Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic, New Orleans Hornets & San Antonio Spurs hasn't helped as either.

Thankfully, the schedule is much easier for the team this week--the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Minnesota Timberwolves are all up on the docket. The bad news is the Anaheim vibes are growing stronger, and fan morale is ranging from dispirited to desperate. And with Sacramento going nowhere this season at 15-49, it's hard for people to come together and head to what could be the final games in the state capital.
