The Oakland Raiders wrapped up their 2010 season with a strong 31-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The victory leaves the Raiders at 8-8, which is their first non-losing season since 2002. Although the 49ers had some downs in 2010, Raider Nation will likely consider this a positive campaign that the team can build on in 2011.

Although the Raiders won, San Diego’s victory over Denver kept them a game ahead of Oakland in the final division standings. While second place would have been nice, third place brings a tangible positive in the form of two opponents they would not otherwise face in 2011. This final finish means the Raiders face the third place teams from the AFC North and AFC South. Those two teams are the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans.

If the Chargers had lost, the Raiders have found themselves facing Baltimore and Jacksonville. The Raiders proved in 2010 that they can hang with most anybody over 60 minutes on Sunday, but any team would favor the Browns and Texans over the Jags and Ravens.

The NFL will release 2011 game dates later this spring, which we’ll be sure to get posted. In the meantime, head over to Silver and Black Pride to discuss all things related to the Oakland Raiders.

As the 2010 NFL season comes to a close, the unofficial NFL Draft order is slowly coming into focus. The NFL will release the official order of non-playoff teams in the next day or two after teams wrap up action with tonight’s Rams-Seahawks matchup.

The Oakland Raiders dealt away their 2011 first round pick in order to acquire Richard Seymour, but the draft order still affects where they pick in subsequent rounds. At this point, the Raiders 8-8 finish will leave them with the 17th pick in each round after the first. That also means the New England Patriots will be selecting 17th overall in the first round with the Raiders former pick.

The Raiders domination of Kansas City to close out the season allowed the Raiders to reach a rather crazy mark. They are the first team to run through their division with an undefeated record while not earning a playoff berth. Congratulations to the Raiders for providing their fans with something to build on in 2011.

The Oakland Raiders beating the Kansas City Chiefs does shake up the NFL playoff picture a little bit, particularly with regards to next week's AFC Wild Card matchups. Kansas City would've locked up the three seed with a win on Oakland, but the loss puts their position in some doubt, as they finish at 10-6 on the season. Although they're still guaranteed a home playoff game, who they'll play could be in doubt.

With the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the Cleveland Browns, they clinched the AFC North, meaning the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens earned the wild-card spots. The Ravens finished the season 12-4, the Jets 11-5, so they earn the fifth and sixth playoff seeds.

Where Kansas City ends up will depend on what happens in the Indianapolis Colts-Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars-Houston Texans matchups in the AFC South. If the Colts beat the Titans as expected (they need to win to get in), the Colts will clinch the AFC South, AND they'll have the tiebreaker over the Chiefs because they beat Kansas City head-to-head. The Chiefs would fall to the fourth seed and face the Ravens in the first round; the Colts would face the Jets. If the Colts lose, the Chiefs would clinch the third seed, and face the Jets in the first round.

The Oakland Raiders are no longer the punchline of the NFL, and they showed it by beating up on a playoff-bound Kansas City Chiefs all afternoon long. Despite Michael Bush powering the Raiders offense with 137 rushing yards, one touchdown, and 34 receiving yards, and Jason Campbell managing the game effectively with 155 yards on 15 of 25 throwing and 33 rushing yards on the ground, the story of the game was the Oakland defense, which overpowered Kansas City’s offensive line the entire game and forced Matt Cassel into a terrible offensive performance.

Despite Jamaal Charles playing well (87 yards and a touchdown on Kansas City’s lone successful drive), Cassel could not get going, throwing 11 of 33 for 115 yards and two interceptions. He was also constantly battered, sacked five times and pressured numerous other times. Kamerion Wimbley led the way with three sacks, and Jarvis Moss, Lamarr Houston, Desmond Bryant and Tyvon Branch added one apiece. The Raiders secondary rewarded their front seven by grabbing the two crucial interceptions to wrap up the contest. The Chiefs managed only 17 first downs and 201 yards of total offense.

Matt Cassel is probably wishing he’d just sat today’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders. He’s been battered, sacked, knocked down, pressured and generally ineffective. And in the fourth quarter, he’s finally been picked.

Cassel’s first interception came with the Chiefs pinned deep in their red zone. Cassel threw a pass intended for Dexter McCluster that was batted up in the air and into the hands of Michael Huff, who returned it to the Kansas City 10. That set up a Jacoby Ford wide receiver reverse touchdown to make it 24-10.

On the next possession, a false start and a 15 yard sack by Desmond Bryant set up 3rd and 30, and another Cassel throw to McCluster was picked off by Stanford Routt. Routt returned it 22 yards for what essentially was the game-clinching touchdown, making it 31-10 with nine minutes left. Cassel is now 11 for 33 for 115 yards and two interceptions.

The Kansas City Chiefs offense has struggled all game long, and most of it has started with the offensive line not protecting Matt Cassel. Cassel has been rushed for most of Sunday, sacked twice, forced into a grounding penalty, and pressured and hit a couple more times; he’s only completed six of his nineteen throws. The Oakland Raiders took 10-3 lead into halftime, and Kansas City hardly looked like the AFC West champions.

However, after a long drive at the beginning of the third quarter stalled when Campbell threw a pass short to Zack Miller, Kansas City struck right back. Jamaal Charles exploded for a huge run for 47 yards down the left side, and he capped off the drive with a five yard rush to tie the game at 10.

But Oakland wasn’t done. Thanks to an illegal contact penalty by Brandon Flowers, and a personal foul facemask penalty by Jovan Belcher set the Raiders up in Chiefs territory, a Jacoby Ford end-around brought them close to the red zone, and Michael Bush punctuated the drive with a 26 yard touchdown run to put the Raiders back up 17-10. Bush now has rushed for 128 yards on 21 carries and caught four catches for 34 yards. Charles has 77 rushing yards on nine carries.

The offense of the Kansas City Chiefs has been held down pretty well early on by the Oakland Raiders. Matt Cassel has completed 5 of 12 passes for only 43 yards. Jamaal Charles injured his shoulder, although he is still playing in the game. Kansas City has only a couple of first downs and three punts, and are averaging only 2.5 yards per carry on the ground.

After one series with Kyle Boller, Jason Campbell returned from an early knee injury and marched Oakland down the field with a 14 play, 91 yard, six-and-a-half minute drive. It started with a 21 yard Campbell scramble down the right sideline on 2nd and 20. Then Campbell found Michael Bush for another first down, converted a short pass to Chaz Schilens for 11 yards on 3rd and 7, and hooked up with Jacoby Ford deep for 35 yards to set up 1st and goal at the 6 yard line. Finally, on 3rd and goal, Campbell found Schilens alone at the back of the end zone, giving the Raiders a 7-3 lead over the Chiefs in Arrowhead. It was Schilens’s first touchdown of the entire season.

The Kansas City Chiefs don’t need to win today (they’ll have to play a tough opponent at home regardless next week), but the Oakland Raiders handed them an early gift, literally. Running the end-around, Darrius Heyward Bey fumbled a wide receiver run forced by Jovan Belcher; it was recovered by Derrick Johnson on the Oakland 17. That set up a field goal by Ryan Succop for the Chiefs to give them an early first quarter lead. Oakland’s defense has played pretty well though, allowing only 3.1 yards per play and two first downs

With no Darren McFadden playing, the Oakland Raiders offense has looked pretty ordinary, with the fumble, a three-and-out, and only one first down on three drives. Jason Campbell was injured after running out of bounds and being chased down by Tamba Hali. He was seen holding his right knee. Kyle Boller is now starting at quarterback. Tight end Zach Miller also got hurt after getting his left knee bent under him.
