Not only did the Raiders loss see them lose ground in the AFC West race, but also in the Wild Card race. Currently, the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots are the leaders for the two AFC Wild Card spots. Both teams won in Week 12.

The Patriots improved their record 9-2 with a 45-24 Thanksgiving Day win against the Detroit Lions. The Steelers improved to 8-3 with a 16-13 overtime win against the Close-but-no-cigar Buffalo Bills. Both of these teams saw their hold on the wild card spot tighten when the Indianapolis Colts fell at home to the San Diego Chargers 36-14.

The Colts loss lands them in a group of teams at 6-5 and one game ahead of the Raiders. Also at 6-5 are the Chargers and the Dolphins. The Dolphins, of course, revamped their wild card hopes by trouncing the Raiders.

The Raiders, at 5-6, are on the bottom of the wild card picture with the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans. The Texans and Titans find themselves at 5-6 after the Texans shut-out the Titans, 20-0. Making the wild card road even more difficult for the Raiders is that they have already lost to the Titans, Texans, Dolphins and Steelers.

While the Oakland Raiders were busy getting pushed all over the field in a 33-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs were busy widening the gap between the two teams. The Chiefs beat the Seahawks in Seattle 42-24. They are now 7-4 and two games ahead of the 5-6 Raiders.

The Raiders now find themselves in third place in the AFC West as they now sit behind the 6-5 San Diego Chargers. The Chargers were showcased on NBC’s Sunday Night Football in a game against the Indianapolis Colts in Indianapolis. The Chargers appeared to have stopped beating themselves and they easily beat the Colts 36-14. The Chargers managed to harass Peyton Manning into four interceptions en route to the lopsided victory. The Chargers will host the Raiders next week.

Meanwhile, the Broncos saw their fourth quarter comeback against the St. Louis Rams fall short and they walked off of their home field as 36-33 losers. At 3-8, the Broncos are now all but mathematically eliminated from the division race. The game caps off a stormy week for the Broncos and Head Coach Josh McDaniels. Earlier in the week McDaniels was fined for the Broncos illegal videotaping of the 49ers’ practice.

The Oakland Raiders offense struggled for any semblance of consistency against the Miami Dolphins and it cost them in the end as they fell to 5-6 courtesy of a 33-17 loss. The Raiders made a couple big plays, but it was a lack of consistency that kept them from winning today’s game. The Raiders got three big plays from Jacoby Ford, two on offense and one on special teams, but it was not enough to overcome a strong Miami passing attack.

The Dolphins didn’t exactly blow the Raiders away with their offensive attack, but rather wore them down over the course of the game. Ricky Williams iced the game with 3:21 remaining, but this game was probably over well before then. The Raiders led 14-10 at one point and took a 14-13 lead into the half, but that lead was basically due to two plays. Jacoby Ford ran back a kickoff return for a touchdown to open the game and then made a 44-yard touchdown catch with 5:41 to go in the half. In the second half, after Miami had recapture the lead, Ford made a spectacular 52-yard catch that set up a Sebastian Janikowski field goal.

Bruce Gradkowski did in fact complete other passes on the day, but when you only make one sizable completion every other drive, it’s not going to be enough to win. When the Dolphins went up 26-17 with 4:07 left in the fourth quarter the game was just about finished.

As the Raiders move forward, they need to figure out how to boost their offensive production on a consistent basis. Darren McFadden has had a very solid 2010 campaign and Jacoby Ford is emerging as a big time playmaker. However, when your best receiver, Zach Miller, gets one catch for six yards, it shouldn’t be surprising that the offense struggled for consistency. The Raiders need to figure out a way to get the ball into Miller’s hands more frequently. That may not be the be-all, end-all to their offensive woes, but it would certainly be a step in the right direction.

The Miami Dolphins are close to pulling out their sixth win of the season as they have taken a 26-17 lead on the Oakland Raiders with 4:03 remaining in the game. The Dolphins were leading 23-14 when the Raiders stormed down the field into field goal range courtesy of a 52-yard reception by Jacoby Ford. The Bruce Gradkowski pass appeared to be intercepted but Ford was able to slip the ball away from Chris Clemons and come down with the reception. Oakland then gained ten yards on a tripping penalty but stalled out and had to settle for a Sebastian Janikowski field goal to cut the lead to 23-17.

The Dolphins responded with a long drive of their own down to the Raiders eight yard line. The Oakland defense stiffened up and held the Dolphins to a 25-yard field goal. However, that field goal is huge because it made the game a two possession affair. Considering the Raiders offense has really consisted of two big plays, I don’t know if they have enough firepower to get two scores.

The Oakland Raiders lead is gone and it’s slowly slipping away as the Miami Dolphins now lead 23-14. The Dolphins just missed a field goal so the Raiders certainly are not out of it yet with over a quarter of football left to play. The Dolphins last drive stalled out at the Oakland 31 and Dan Carpenter missed a 50-yard field goal attempt.

After Miami opened the half with a 57-yard touchdown pass to take a 20-14 lead, the Raiders offense continued to sputter. They went three and out and the Dolphins capitalized on the punt by grabbing three more points on a 44-yard field goal. The Raiders went three and out on their next drive and the Dolphins just missed adding three more points.

The Raiders got the ball back at their own 40 yard line but were unable to capitalize. After moving down to the Miami 35 yard line, Bruce Gradkowski threw a pass into the end zone that was picked off by Chris Clemons. The pass was intended for Jacoby Ford and one has to wonder if Gradkowski is trying to force things to his rookie playmaker.

While we haven’t had a ton of scoring in today’s Raiders-Dolphins matchup, what scoring we have seen has been of the high impact, big play variety. This has continued early in the second half as the Miami Dolphins recapture the lead courtesy of a 57 yard touchdown pass by Chad Henne to Marlon Moore. The connection gives the Dolphins a 20-14 lead in the third quarter.

The Raiders now have the ball, although they almost lost it on a fumble by Jacoby Ford, but the ball went out of bounds. Oakland has since gone three and out and punted the ball as their offensive woes are not pretty right now.

This has been a day of big plays, primarily from Oakland Raiders wide receiver/kick returner Jacoby Ford. The rookie has a touchdown reception and kick return touchdown to account for Oakland’s points. However, there have been a lot of impact plays including the touchdowns and some key turnovers. This game could turn into the proverbial Last Man Standing match, with one team just barely wearing out the other team.

The Oakland Raiders enter halftime leading the Miami Dolphins 14-13. The Dolphins chewed up most of the final 5:32 of the first half on a 15 play drive but stalled out on the Raiders five yard line and had to settle for a Dan Carpenter field goal with eight seconds left in the half. The field goal makes this a one point game at the half.

The Raiders offense had stalled out for much of the first half, but Jacoby Ford has almost single-handedly kept the Raiders in this thing. For has 63 combined yards that includes a 44-yard touchdown reception. He also has a 101 yard kickoff return that opened the game with an Oakland touchdown. Bruce Gradkowski was actually fairly solid in the first half completing seven of ten passes for 113 yards. He had the touchdown pass to Ford, but he also threw a costly interception earlier in the half as the Raiders seemed to have a solid drive developing.

The Raiders have lucked out a bit as the Dolphins have only been able to score three points off a pair of Raiders turnovers. Oakland needs to develop a bit more consistency on offense to pull this out. They’ve shown some signs today after an abysmal performance against the Steelers last week. We’ll see if they can get it done in the second half.

The Raiders offense had been struggling over the last two games, but Jacoby Ford is doing his best to keep them in this game with the Miami Dolphins. Ford ran back the opening kick off for a touchdown, and has now added a 44 yard touchdown reception to give the Raiders a 14-10 lead.

Three weeks ago Ford had his coming out party in this his rookie season. After the Raiders were stymied for much of the first half, Ford opened the second half with a kickoff return for a touchdown. He then followed that with six monstrous receptions that helped the Raiders tie the Chiefs in regulation and eventually beat them in overtime.

Today, Ford is looking to be just as much of a one-man show. It’s not up yet but at some point NFL.com’s Raiders-Dolphins gametracker should have a highlight video of Ford’s touchdown.
