Marcus Thompson finishes off his night of tweeting the game by highlighting the beginning of Jeremy Lin’s young career:

Crowd goes crazy as Jeremy Lin checks in for Monta Ellis

Standing ovation as he drives, draws the foul, and windmills a lay-up off the glass. Fans behind me chant “MVP!”

This is officially the @JLin7 show. He got a still then slipped a no-look pass to Brandan Wright for a dunk #nowayheis600

Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle chimes in:

Warriors 127, Clippers 87. The fans might care about Lin’s line as much as the final score: 7 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast in 11 mins.

Given how the Warriors have been the last few years, it is even the little things that get us this excited … and this is only preseason!

Even with a comfortable 3rd quarter lead, summer league darling Jeremy Lin has yet to make his preseason debut. But then again, neither has Charlie Bell. But is this possible DNP cause for worry? CSN Bay Area Matt Steinmetz wrote on Wednesday that Jeremy Lin looked “overmatched at times on the floor and seems to be struggling to come to terms with the speed of the game.” And this was just training camp practice.

and then…

Blake Griffin just skied for a dunk and David Lee watched. Not expecting a hard foul in preseason, but still …

I’ve only seen a little of Dorell Wright. But his J is kinda wet

From Golden State of Mind’s preview of tonights game:

3 Things I’m Excited About For Tonight’s Game

1) Stephen Curry
What a monster 2nd half Curry had. In my optimistic view of things, he’s going to get better. Heck, if he plays like he did in that 2nd half of the year for the rest of his career, he’ll have a damn good career. But he’s going to get better than that. And he better be a Warriors for a long, long time. Who’s more important Buster Posey or Stephen Curry? See, baseball on the brain.

2) David Lee
A guy who can score AND rebound? Whoa. He still doesn’t play defense, which would have made him the holy trinity. 2 out of 3 ain’t bad especially when we swapped him for some bench guys. Yea that’s right, Anthony Randolph = bench player. It’s easy to be optimistic about your own players and easy to be pessimistic about everyone else.

3) Blake Griffin
Non-Warriors excitement but still excited to see how this guy does. He looked so promising coming out of college and he just has the unfortunate luck of playing for the Clips (playing for the Warriors is no more or less cursed). His game against the Kings yesterday? 18 points (7-7 FG) and 13 boards.

GSoMer, ejdacanay, was clear excited about tonights game:

Let’s go Matt Cain!

For once, there is a lot to be excited about in Bay Area sports. Let the games begin!

The Golden State Warriors host the Los Angeles Clippers tonight in their first preseason game. Fans, players, coaches, and higher-ups on both teams will probably be holding their breath that none of their players gets severely hurt, specifically their former prized 1st round picks.

Last season, both teams had their dreams deferred once again as former #1 pick overall, Blake Griffin's season ended before it even started. Same went with forgotten Warriors power forward Brandan Wright, who re-injured his shoulder in preseason last year and was forced to rehabilitate the rest of year.

Both teams will probably shake off some rust if not have to learn how to play together. The Warriors have a radically transformed lineup, with few regular rotation players returning. The Warriors have rebuilt their line-up drawing mostly from rotation players whereas the Clippers brought several players from the draft, which they seem to be trying out to see who can back-up the oft-injured Baron Davis.

But these "freeseason" games, to quote my man Eric Rukis, have little to do with the star players than seeing some NBA hopefuls latch onto a team. Will Jeremy Lin, making his preseason debut, not be as "nervous" as Marcus Thompson II tweeted the other day from their open practice? Will Willie Warren shake off the negative labels around his personality that followed him throughout his sophomore slump at Oklahoma? Is Dorell Wright really the offensive powerhouse that local sports critics are saying is already an upgrade over Corey Maggette and Kelenna Azubuike?

With little on the line, so to speak, what are you looking forward to seeing the most with today's first preseason game?

Head over to SB Nation's Golden State Warriors blog, Golden State of Mind, for more discussion about tonight's game.
