There were some troublesome things that happened Saturday against the Niners (injuries, bad run defense, missed tackles), but one thing Raiders fans should be happy about is they have a solid No. 2 QB. Bruce Gradkowski, seeing his first game action since tearing ligaments in both his knees (in one play) last season, shined for the Raidahs. Gradkowski went 14-for-22 for 202 yards and two TDs Saturday, throwing a 74-yard bomb down the middle to Louis Murphy and a slant to tight end Zach Miller. OK, the bomb was a gimme (the cornerback on the play looked liked one of those old video game players who would sometimes get stuck in a certain position and would wiggle around a little bit before you could move them), but the slant pass was a legit NFL throw. Gradkowski, don’t forget, beat the Bengals and the Steelers last season before going down with the injury. Tom “The Cable Guy” Cable certainly likes him:

“He definitely showed himself well and strengthened our football team at the quarterback position,” Cable said. “I think he is (the backup). I never said he wasn’t.”

I always thought Kyle Boller was a good professional bowling name…Maybe he could take up that…

Michael Bush fractured his left thumb on his last run of the evening against the 49ers, and will visit a specialist today to get it looked at. There is no word yet on how much time Bush would miss with the injury. Of course, for a running back, any hand-related injury can be tough given the need to hold the ball. With Darren McFadden as a capable option to start week 1, the team might be wise to take their time getting Bush healthy.

It's hard to quantify where exactly the Raiders offense sits based on game three of their exhibition season. On one hand, they had many drives that ended with no forward progress, and on the other they had two 70+ yard touchdowns. The name of the game was penalties - and there were a lot of them in this sloppy affair.

Jason Campbell looked like a very competent quarterback on the opening drive, completing pass after pass, it would be a drive ending in seven points for the Raiders.

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Anthony Dixon's one-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter helped theSan Francisco 49ers take a 28-24 win over the Oakland Raiders in the third preseason game for both squads.

Dixon finished the game with 21 carries for 69 yards while Alex Smith went 9- for-15 with 113 yards and a touchdown for the 49ers, who have won all three of their preseason games.

Bruce Gradkowski went 14-for-22 with 202 yards and two touchdowns while Michael Bush had seven carries for 23 yards and a score for the Raiders, who fell to 2-1 in the preseason.

Bush punched the ball into the end zone from a yard out to give Oakland a 7-0 lead with the only points of the first quarter.

San Francisco got 17 straight points in the second quarter on a 28-yard field goal from Joe Nedney, an 83-yard punt return from Phillip Adams and a 16-yard touchdown catch by Josh Morgan from Smith.

Louis Murphy hauled in a 74-yard touchdown catch from Gradkowski to make it a 17-14 game at the break.

In the third, Zach Miller's 27-yard touchdown catch from Gradkowski gave Oakland a 21-17 lead.

Nedney and Sebastian Janikowski traded field goals later in the third as it was a 24-21 game heading into the final quarter.

The Raiders had a productive offseason and it seems to have been enough to inspire confidence from within the team itself. RIchard Seymour had some interesting comments:

Talent-wise, we’re as talented as any team in football, but it takes more than talent. It takes attention to details. It takes doing the little things, because the margin of victory is small in the league, and there has to be consistency.

Seymour was not too pleased to be traded from the Patriots to the Raiders, but now he’s feeling pretty good about the team. I do think the addition of Jason Campbell was a big addition for that offense, to go with an already fairly potent defense.

The Raiders seem particularly excited heading into the 2010 season. We’ll see if they can back it up on the field.

Saint over at Silver and Black pride put together a rundown of ten things he’ll be looking for tomorrow night when the Raiders and 49ers meet up at the Coliseum. Some of the important ones for the Raiders upcoming season:

1) Will the left side of the 49er line be able to stop Wimbley, Shaughnessy and Seymour?

3) Will the Raiders be able to stop the run?

9) Will Campbell continue to be calm and collected?

10) How will Jared Veldheer handle starting at Center against a team that loves to come right up the middle?

The Raiders look to continue their preseason dominance this Saturday as they host Bay rivals the San Francisco 49ers. New QB Jason Campbell will look to continue edging the Raiders toward respectability. After the Raiders offense looked a little off balance in their preseason opener against Dallas, Campbell threw for 170 yards with one interception and ran for a score in the first half of last game against Da Bears. They Raidahs ended up winning that in beatdown fashion, 32-17.

The defense thus far has looked mighty impressive. After defensive ends Matt Shaughnessy and LaMarr Houston had two sacks apiece in the preseason opener, it was linebacker Kamerion Wimbley who starred against Da Bears. Wimbley, who was acquired in the offseason from the Browns, had four sacks in the game.

"He had an exceptional night. It started right from the get-go," Oakland coach Tom Cable said. "Until he came out of the game, I thought he was a factor on third down on every series."

Wimbley is currently listed ahead of former Jacksonville Jaguar Quentin "Grove Street" Groves to make the 53-man roster.

QB Bruce Gradkowski will see some time under center this game. For those of you who forgot about him, he won two of his first three starts last season before tearing ligaments in BOTH of his knees. Judging by the fact he used two cliches in one sentence, it's safe to say he's excited to get back out there.

"Yeah, I feel good. I'm ready to rock and roll," Gradkowski said. "Shoot, I miss it. I've been champing at the bit. I'm just excited to get back out there this weekend."

Look for plenty of screen passes this weekend. Campbell hit Michael Bush and Marcel Reece with 24-yard and 40-yard passes respectively against Da Bears.
