Oakland Raiders newly-signed defensive end Andre Carter is practicing, reports CSN Bay Area. Whether or not the Cal alum plays in Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos is a decision head coach Dennis Allen is leaving until Sunday.

Allen has 11 seasons in the NFL, his most recent being a 10-sack season for the New England Patriots in 2011. An injury late last season denied him a trip to the Pro Bowl and left him looking for a job for 2012. The Raiders had twice worked out the veteran in training camp and signed him on Wednesday after their need for a stronger pass rush became undeniable. The Raiders have only three sacks through their first three games, compared to seven sacks in the same stretch of the 2011 season.

Carter was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers as the seventh overall pick of the 2001 NFL Draft. After five years with the Niners he signed with the Washington Redskins, spending five years there before signing with the Patriots.
