NFL Mock Draft 2013: Raiders likely to aim for defense

The Oakland Raiders will probably be aiming to find a defender in the 2013 NFL Draft to upgrade their putrid defense.

USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Raiders will be right near the top of the 2013 NFL Draft board, trailing only the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars in terms of worst overall record. Oakland will have their shot at the third overall pick and a chance to upgrade a position of the need.

NFL draft boards have the Raiders aiming for defense. Rob Rang and Dane Brugler, draft experts from CBS Sports, have Jarvis Jones and Barkevious Mingo slotted for the Raiders respectively. Jones is an outside linebacker from Georgia, and Mingo is an outside linebacker from LSU. Defense has been a problem for Oakland all season and getting an athletic freak like Jones or Mingo would upgrade their position.

The San Francisco 49ers are well down the board, situated around 27th at the moment. Rang has the Niners taking defensive end Dion Jordan from Oregon, while Brugler goes with Barrett Jones, a center from Alabama. This isn't a team with any real pressing needs, so it would probably be a move to augment depth.
