The Oakland Raiders placed backup linebacker Travis Goethel on the injured reserved list after he suffered a season-ending knee injury, and the team picked up veteran linebacker Omar Gaither as a replacement, reports MercuryNews.com.
Goethel tore his left ACL in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He played primarily with the special teams unit this year and has been injured for much of his career since entering the NFL in 2010. The third-year linebacker had a back injury sideline him for half of his rookie season and missed all of last year after a separate injury.
Gaither is a seven-year NFL veteran who spent most of his playing days with the Philadelphia Eagles. He has started 40 games for the Eagles and the Carolina Panthers, who he played with in 2011. The 6'2, 235 pound linebacker worked out for the Raiders on Tuesday and was practicing for coach Dennis Allen's squad on Wednesday, reports MercuryNews.com.
Gaither has 393 tackles in his career to go with six sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble.
