Raiders vs. Cardinals Final Score: Carson Palmer Gets Plenty of Snaps in 31-27 Loss

A quick-hit recap of the Week 2 preseason contest between the Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals.

Presswire

After a pedestrian offensive output against the Dallas Cowboys, the Oakland Raiders managed to plenty of points on the board -- but it wasn't enough to defeat the Arizona Cardinals as the Raiders fell, 31-27 on Friday night.

Carson Palmer had plenty of chances to improve on a lackluster outing in Week 1 as he attempted 24 passes, completing 13, including one interception. He played the entire first half and led the offense on three scoring drives, all field goals by Sebastian Janikowski.

Rookie running back Lonyae Miller was impressive in the running game, carrying the ball 15 times for 54 yards and a one-yard TD run that capped a nine-play, 66-yard scoring drive in the third quarter. Darren McFadden finished with nine carries for 34 yards. He broke a long run of 22 yards in the first quarter and was done for the day after the drive led to a Janikowski field goal.

Matt Leinart was slated to get plenty of second-half work in but fell victim to a viscous hit by Cardinals defensive lineman Larry Lumpkin. The play happened on a late hit and will likely cause Lumpkin to face disciplinary action by the NFL.

Injuries were a big part of the story on Friday night, as wide receiver Jacoby Ford left with an ankle injury while running back Mike Goodson left with an apparent chest injury.
