The Oakland Raiders have been working to clear salary space in the recent weeks and the team used some of that free money to sign free agent cornerback Ron Bartell. The 22-year-old Bartell spent last season with the St. Louis Rams, but he played just one game due to injury. He will provide Oakland with some much needed depth in the secondary.
The two sides reportedly met on Thursday and worked out the details over the course of the last 24 hours. No details have been released on the contract length or value.
As for Bartell, he is known to have strong coverage skills and has started 66 games over the past seven years in St. Louis. While capable of locking a receiver down, he is not much of an interception threat, seeing as he has just eight career interceptions and none since the 2009 season.
