If there's any guy Oakland Raiders fans probably want to be hearing about right now, it's Matt Millen. Yes. Stop laughing. I'm not joking. Matt Millen could be a potential useful source of info because of whom the Raiders might be looking at to replace their current head coach.
Marty Mornhinweg could be the guy next in line, and Millen is familiar with him as he hired him as the head coach of the Detroit Lions when he was general manager. Millen went on 95.7 THE GAME to talk about his former subordinate and reiterate his qualities as a coach. Snippet after the jump (and you can find the rest on the 95.7 The Game website).
On Mornhinweg’s coaching ability and time with the Detroit Lions:
Let me tell you something with Marty Mornhinweg. Marty Mornhinweg is sharp cookie. He knows how to call games, he knows how to game plan. Don’t hold Detroit against him, at all. What you need to do is blame me for his lack of success in Detroit because I wasn’t able to get him the players that he needed. That was not Marty’s fault. I will take the hit on that. Marty Mornhinweg is a good coach.
Now, keep in mind this is Matt Millen. And the man he's giving kudos to went 5-27 in two years and is most famous for botching an overtime coin toss. So it's hard for Raiders fans to feel at all comfortable by these words alone.
