The Kansas City Chiefs offense has struggled all game long, and most of it has started with the offensive line not protecting Matt Cassel. Cassel has been rushed for most of Sunday, sacked twice, forced into a grounding penalty, and pressured and hit a couple more times; he’s only completed six of his nineteen throws. The Oakland Raiders took 10-3 lead into halftime, and Kansas City hardly looked like the AFC West champions.
However, after a long drive at the beginning of the third quarter stalled when Campbell threw a pass short to Zack Miller, Kansas City struck right back. Jamaal Charles exploded for a huge run for 47 yards down the left side, and he capped off the drive with a five yard rush to tie the game at 10.
But Oakland wasn’t done. Thanks to an illegal contact penalty by Brandon Flowers, and a personal foul facemask penalty by Jovan Belcher set the Raiders up in Chiefs territory, a Jacoby Ford end-around brought them close to the red zone, and Michael Bush punctuated the drive with a 26 yard touchdown run to put the Raiders back up 17-10. Bush now has rushed for 128 yards on 21 carries and caught four catches for 34 yards. Charles has 77 rushing yards on nine carries.
