After back-to-back extra inning losses at the hands of a New York Yankees, the Oakland Athletics are looking to avoid being swept at Yankee Stadium and hang on to a wild card spot in the American League.
Oakland will send rookie A.J. Griffin (6-1, 2.45) to the mound on Sunday, hoping to bounce back from his first loss of the season. He was 6-0 with a 1.94 ERA in his first 11 starts before he was tagged for five runs and three home runs in just 4.2 innings of work en route to a 12-2 loss against Detroit on Tuesday.
New York will counter with Hiroki Kuroda (14-10, 3.26 ERA), who has a 5.40 ERA in his last three starts despite being 2-0 over that stretch. Kuroda allowed four runs along with 10 strikeouts in six innings of a 6-4 win over Tampa Bay last Sunday.
First pitch is set for 10:05 a.m. PT with coverage on CSN California and 95.7 The Game.
