The Oakland Athletics are looking for their ninth consecutive victory on Sunday, hoping that Brett Anderson can keep his frenzied pace going since his return from the disabled list against the sinking Boston Red Sox.
Anderson (2-0, 0.64 ERA) has been lights out since his return from Tommy John surgery, including tossing seven scoreless against the Indians in his last outing. He's got a strong resume against Boston as well, posting a 4-1 mark with a 2.92 ERA in the last six start against them.
The Red Sox will counter with Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-3, 5.10) who recently returned from a Tommy John surgery of his own. He was remarkable against the Royal in his last start, tossing seven scoreless innings, though struggled in his last visit to Oakland, allowing five runs on four hits, including two homers, en route to a 6-1 loss.
Last night marked the fifth-straight loss for Boston, the longest stretch of the season. The A's on the other hand haven't had a nine-game winning streak since 2006, the last year they made the playoffs.
First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT with coverage on CSN California and 95.7 The Game.
