Athletics Vs. Rangers Final Score: Oakland Avoid Series Sweep With 3-1 Win

The Oakland Atheltics were able to avoid a four game sweep by the Texas Rangers, winning Sunday's Game 4 by a score of 3-1. Oakland overcame a strong performance by Texas' Yu Darvish, who had a season high 11 strikeouts.

Texas struck first, going up 1-0 in the third inning, but Oakland was able to tie things up in the fifth with an RBI single by Derek Norris. The go ahead run came in the sixth, with Jemile Weeks scoring on a wild pitch by Darvish after reaching on a fielder's choice and advancing on a Yoenis Cespedes double. Brandon Moss went deep for an insurance run in the seventh, and that was all Oakland needed to seal the game.

Travis Blackley got the win for Oakland, pitching seven innings while giving up seven hits but only one run. Grant Balfour and Jerry Blevins combined to hold Texas scoreless in the eigth, and Ryan Cook retired the side on nine pitches in the ninth to earn his seventh save.

The Athletics next play the Boston Red Sox, hosting the team for a three game series.
