The Oakland Athletics managed to salvage a win in the final game of their home series against the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. After managing just one run in each of the first two games of the three-game series on Friday and Saturday night, the A's offense managed to pick up the 5-1 victory.
The Indians took an early lead in the top of first inning, on back-to-back two-out doubles by Shin-Soo Choo and Travis Hafner. Fortunately, that would be the only run the Indians were able to get across home plate, as Oakland pitching held the Tribe to just two more hits over the rest of the game.
The A's tied things up in the bottom of the third, when Cliff Pennington doubled home Jemile Weeks. Oakland would take the lead for good in the fourth inning, as Kila Ka'aihue drew a leadoff walk and Seth Smith followed up with a two-run homer. The A's stretched their lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning on a Kurt Suzuki RBI single. Oakland tacked on one last insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Pennington singled home Eric Sogard.
Tyson Ross picked up his first win of the year, going 6.2 innings and allowing four hits and five walks.
