The Oakland Athletics hosted the Cleveland Indians on Friday night in the opening game of a three-game series. The A's were looking to keep things rolling as they were coming off taking three of four from the Los Angeles Angels in their home stadium. The return to O.co Coliseum did not go as well as they had hoped, however, as they fell 4-3 to the Indians.
The Indians opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, on a Jack Hannahan sacrifice fly. The A's tied things up in the bottom of the third on a solo Josh Reddick homer. The tie was short-lived, however, as the Indians added two runs in the top of the fourth, both coming on a Hannahan double.
The Indians stretched their lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth when Shin-Soo Choo drove in Jason Kipnis with a single. The A's attempted to claw back, however. Yoenis Cespedes contributed RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings, cutting the Tribe lead to 4-3. Unfortunately, the A's were unable to get any closer.
Cespedes had a great night at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a walk.
