Athletics Vs. Mariners Final Score: Oakland Drops Series With 5-3 Loss

The Oakland Athletics have only played three series thus far in 2012, but after Sunday, they have now dropped two of those three series to American League West rivals the Seattle Mariners. The A's were hoping to pick up the win in the rubber match on Sunday, but ended up losing by a final score of 5-3.

Seattle struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Kyle Seager doubled and Brendan Ryan hit a two-run homer. Justin Smoak added a solo shot in the bottom of the third to make it 3-0 Mariners.

The A's tied things up in the top of the fifth inning on a three-RBI Eric Sogard homer, but the tie ended up being very short-lived. In the bottom of that same inning. Ichiro Suzuki doubled home Chone Figgins to put the Mariners ahead for good. The next batter, Smoak, got an RBI groundout that plated Dustin Ackley for the insurance run.

A's starting pitcher Graham Godfrey took his second loss of the year, giving up all five runs (three earned) in five innings, off of six hits and a walk. Kila Ka`aihue had a three-hit game, all singles. He and Eric Sogard accounted for five of the seven A's hits.
