Athletics Vs. Royals Final Score: Oakland Musters 1 Hit In 3-0 Rain-Shortened Loss

The rains over Oakland delayed the start of Tuesday night's game against the visiting Kansas City Royals by about 40 minutes. The joke was that even after play began, the rains never let up. When the intermittent-to-steady rainfall finally became a downpour, play was finally suspended in the top of the eighth inning, with the A's trailing 3-0. After an hour delay, the game was finally called and the A's took the loss as the 3-0 score became final.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when Mike Moustakas drove in a run for the Royals with a double that glanced off the glove of center fielder Yoenis Cespedes, scoring Billy Butler and moving Jeff Francoeur to third base. Francoeur would come home on an Humberto Quintero sacrifice fly. The Royals would add a third run in the seventh inning, on a solo home run by Mitch Maier.

Cliff Pennington was the only Oakland batter to manage a hit off of Royals starter Danny Duffy, a double in the bottom of the third. Pennington was then picked off of second base by Duffy. The only other A's to reach base were the result of four walks: one each to Cespedes and Recker and two to Collin Cowgill. Duffy combined with Aaron Crow for the one-hit, seven-inning shutout.
