The tragedy of Joey Devine endures. The Oakland Athletics relief pitcher will have Tommy John surgery on the same ligament. It's a situation that is unfortunate for all parties, as Devine is likely to be done for 2012, making that three out of the last four seasons he's missed.
Tommy John surgery again for Devine. #Athletics

Tough luck for Devine to need that ligament repaired again after surgery in 2009. Very rare as a repeat procedure. #Athletics

Devine's first Tommy John surgery took place in April 2009, forcing him to miss the entire season. Devine hasn't really played that much since, making 26 appearances in 2011 and posting a 3.52 ERA in 23 innings pitched. He has yet to come back to the heights he played at in 2008, when he pitched 45 and 2/3 innings and posted an incredible 0.59 ERA, giving up only three earned runs all season!
It sadly looks like a return to form will have to wait another year.
