The Oakland Atheltics had a busy day on Sunday, both on and off the field.
The A's optioned two of their former top prospects, first baseman Chris Carter and outfielder Michael Taylor, to Triple-A Sacramento. While both players are expected to make it back to the majors during the course of the season, many were hoping the two would be able to prove they belonged on the Opening Day main roster. The decision to option them back down is far from the end of the world, but disappointing nonetheless.
In happier news, the A's defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday, 11-2. Oakland has now won nine of their last 10 games. The starting pitcher for the D-Backs was former A's pitcher Trevor Cahill. Cahill gave up two runs in three inning, both runs coming on a home run by Kurt Suzuki. Cahill is now 0-3 in the Cactus League. Kila Ka'aihue and Brandon Moss also hit home runs. Moss finished the day going 3-for-3 with four RBI, despite not being in the starting lineup.
Lastly, Susan Slusser reported that Athletics reliever Joey Devine is expected to open the season on the 15-day disabled list, due to lingering soreness in his right biceps muscle.
