The Golden Globe Awards are underway on NBC and Moneyball is off to an 0-for-1 start. Jonah Hill was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture Drama, but he lost to Christopher Plummer for his role in Beginners. Plummer was a heavy favorite to claim the award as one site had him as an 8/13 favorite. Hill was a heavy underdog with 20/1 odds.
Jonah Hill could still find himself in the running for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, with nominations being announced on January 24. Although Hill would likely be a sizable underdog for that award as well, just the fact that the former star of Superbad could be nominated for an Oscar shows how far his career has come. His most well known work had been in comedies, but his role in Moneyball could really help him take a significant step forward.
Moneyball has been nominated for four awards total including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama and Best Motion Picture screenplay.
