The Oakland Athletics wrap up their three game set with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday and will look to secure a road series win for the first time since early May. The first full weekend in May saw the A’s take two of three from the Kansas City Royals and since then the best they’ve done is a road split of four games with the Los Angeles Angels.
The A’s lineup for Sunday sees David DeJesus sitting for the second straight game. After being a regular starter under Bob Geren, DeJesus has seen his playing time cut fairly dramatically under Bob Melvin. Since Melvin took over, DeJesus has started eight games and sat eight games, coming off the bench to pinch hit in three of the latter. He’ll sit again as Ryan Sweeney gets the start in right field.
HIdeki Matsui will start in left field for the third straight day. Melvin has stated that Matsui will return to the DH role during the upcoming Marlins series so that DeJesus can get some starts against right-handed bats. In the meantime, he’ll continue in the field.
