The Oakland Athletics and Philadelphia Phillies are playing in the seventh inning of a scoreless game that saw a fantastic early pitchers’ duel between less known starters Guillermo Moscoso and Vance Worley. Neither started the season with their respective big league club but both have put together solid 2011 seasons and it was capped off Friday night with a pair of solid starts to the game.
Both Worley and Moscoso were able to take no-hitters into the sixth inning of the game before finally surrendering a first hit. Worley, a Sacramento native lost his no-hitter on a two-out Hideki Matsui double to left center field. Prior to the double, Worley had struggled a bit with control, walking four batters. He shot his pitch count up pretty high and left after getting the final out in the sixth.
Moscoso lost his no-hitter in the bottom of the sixth on a one-out single by noted A’s killer Placido Polanco. He recovered to retire Chase Utley and Ryan Howard for the final two outs of the inning. He is now pitching in the seventh inning with the score tied at zero.
