Major League Baseball announced the US and World rosters for the XM All Star Futures Game and the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants each have a representative. The A's will be represented by Double-A shortstop Grant Green. The Giants will be represented by Single-A outfielder Gary Brown. The game will take place the Sunday before the All Star Game at 3:00pm pacific on ESPN2 and MLB.TV.
Grant Green is considered by some to be the number one prospect in the A's organization and is making his second straight appearance in the Futures Game. In 63 games at Midland (AA), Green has a line of .293/.344/.407. HIs fielding has some holes and many think he will end up moving to second base when all is said and done.
Gary Brown is among the Giants top prospects since being drafted in 2010. In 67 games at advanced A San Jose, Brown has a line of .328/.398/.477 with 32 stolen bases. Although he has plenty of work ahead of him, Brown will likely end up at AA before the season is out.
Both the A's and Giants have had extensive representation in past Futures Games, with several members of their current rosters having made appearances in the Game in the past. For the A's, Trevor Cahill, Brett Anderson, Gio Gonzalez, Daric Barton, Kurt Suzuki, Conor Jackson, Cliff Pennington, Jemile Weeks, Grant Balfour, and Rich Harden all appeared in the Futures Game. For the Giants, Matt Cain, Barry Zito, Madison Bumgarner, Pat Burrell, Bill Hall, Nate Schierholtz, Pablo Sandoval, and Andres Torres all made appearances in the Futures Game.
We'll have plenty of All Star week coverage at SB Nation Bay Area, but for now, head over to Athletics Nation and McCovey Chronicles for more A's and Giants discussion.
