The San Francisco Giants have already lost the second installment of the 2011 Bay Bridge series, but that doesn’t mean they can’t play for some pride. The Giants haven’t won a single game at the Coliseum since June of 2009, but hopefully that streak will be broken this afternoon.
As for the lineup, skipper Bruce Bochy is going with basically the same look as Saturday’s game, save for Eli Whiteside behind the dish and Matt Cain on the mound. Aaron Rowand will get his second straight DH stint at the Coliseum.
In a bit of team news, the San Francisco Chronicle’s John Shea reported that Giants utility man Mark DeRosa has begun hitting off of a tee, the first real sign that DeRosa might be able to still salvage some season/career. There is no timetable for his return, but hey, it’s a start…
Also, the team has decided not to use Pablo Sandoval as a backup catcher and may look to minor league prospect Hector Sanchez. Sanchez is batting .310 since being called up to triple-A Fresno, and has eight homers and 52 RBI’s so far in the minors this season. I think the Giants need a third Sanchez on the squad….
