The Oakland A’s certainly have gotten some retribution from their last meeting with San Francisco Giants, looking to return the favor of a sweep in the Bay Bridge series. But with Trevor Cahil’s struggles as of late, no one really knows just what sort of outing he might have. But something tells me that he will be getting up for this meeting with Matt Cain and the A’s cross-town rivals at the Coliseum.
Cahill (6-5 3.42 ERA) is winless in his past seven outings, including throwing a career-high seven walks against Kansas City on Tuesday. An All-Star in 2010, Trevor didn’t have a strikeout while yielding four runs in 4 1/3 innings Tuesday; He’s also allowed 15 runs in his past five starts, something the A’s ace has never done.
Then there’s Matt Cain (6-4 3.61 ERA) who is currently riding a three game win streak, including a 6-5 victory over the Diamondbacks on where Cain gave up five runs and struck out four, but still pitched well enough to get a victory. Cain did not pitch in the first Bay Bridge Series, but is 2-2 with a 1.45 ERA against Oakland in his last four starts against them.
The Giants are 41-44 all time in the Bay Bridge series now, and haven’t won a game at the Coliseum since June 24, 2009. Conversely, the A’s haven’t won at AT&T since 2008, so I’d say the home team has some advantages here. Maybe the cycle can be broken this afternoon…
Coverage begins at 1:05 PT on CSN Bay Area, CSN California, KNBR 680 AM, and Sports Radio 95.7 FM.
