The Oakland Athletics dropped a 3-2 decision to the Chicago White Sox Saturday evening as the offense went back into its shell once again. A’s starter Gio Gonzalez struggled with control but did just enough to keep the A’s in the game. The A’s were tied late but a Brad Ziegler error on a throw to second on what should have been an easy double play resulted in Brent Lillibridge scoring what proved to be the winning run.
The A’s exchanged runs with the White Sox before the Lillibridge go-ahead run as neither team was able to break the game open. Gonzalez gave up five hits and walked three batters but the White Sox struggled to take advantage of the situation, thus keeping it close.
In the eighth inning, the A’s appeared like they were going to take the lead on a big Coco Crisp two-run home run. Unfortunately Brent Lillibridge made a perfectly timed leap to snag the ball from over the fence. The A’s were unable to put anything else on the board and lost 3-2.
The A’s will look to even the series in a lunchtime finale on Sunday. First pitch is at 11:10am pacific and will be broadcast on CSN California. Guillermo Moscoso will face off against Philip Humber.
