The Oakland Athletics square off against the New York Yankees Tuesday night looking to snap a five game losing streak against the Bronx Bombers dating back to 2010. The A’s have long struggled against New York and haven’t won a series against them since 2007.
Tuesday’s matchup features Brett Anderson taking on Freddy Garcia, who is having a bit of a career resurgence with the Yankees. Garcia struggled with injuries in 2007, 2008, and 2009 before getting relatively healthy last season in Chicago. He finished 12-6 with a 4.64 ERA as a member of the White Sox rotation. In eight 2011 starts with the Yankees, Garcia is 3-4 with a 3.26 ERA.
Brett Anderson is also 3-4, with a 2.84 ERA as he has dealt with a significant lack of run support. He is coming off eight innings of shutout ball against the Angels. He’ll look to give the A’s a shot to pull out a series victory in a potential Wednesday rubber match.
