A's vs. White Sox, MLB Scores: Trevor Cahill Suffers First Loss of Season, A's Fall 4-3

The Oakland A’s were looking to close out their series with the Chicago White Sox this afternoon, and wound up in a shootout at the Coliseum. Mark Buehrle and Trevor Cahill dueled it out, both teams traded blows, but the White Sox eventually came out on top by a score of 4-3, handing Cahill his first loss of 2011.

Cahill (L 6-1) lasted for 7 innings today, giving up 10 hits, four runs, two earned, one walk and one strikeout. He didn’t have his best day on the mound today, but was good enough to keep the A’s in the game. Aside from an Alexi Ramirez homer in the 4th and an Alex Rios double in the 7th, all his hits were singles.

Coco Crisp launched a homer in the 4th, his second of the year, to tie the game early. The A’s didn’t score again until the 7th with a 2 run single by Daric Barton, but it was too little too late as the A’s couldn’t muster a rally.

Mark Buehrle (W 3-3) fared pretty well in his 6 1/3 innings of work, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Sergio Santos notched his fifth save of the season in the ninth, despite walking two A’s. Along with his home run Alexi Ramirez added an RBI single in the seventh as well while Carlos Quentin added a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

With the loss the A’s move back to .500 for the year at 20-20. Full box score can be found here.

The A’s start their next series with the Angels tomorrow with Brett Anderson (2-3 3.21 ERA) on the mound to face Joel Pineiro (2-0 1.33 ERA) for the Angels. First pitch is set for 7:05 PT with coverage on CSN California and Sports Radio 95.7 FM.
