Oakland Athletics Injury Update: Dallas Braden Expected To Start; Michael Wuertz Expected To DL

Earlier today we indicated that word on Twitter was that Dallas Braden would be scratched tonight due to a neck injury. However, my sources indicate that Tyson Ross is actually being called up to replace Michael Wuertz. I don’t know what the injury is as there has been no news about any such injury. However, it nonetheless sounds like that’s the case.

Ross made 24 relief appearances in 2010 but the A’s were looking at him as a starter heading into 2011. After being optioned to the minors it was expected he would remain stretched out as a starter. However, with Bailey still out and Joey Devine still working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Ross will get his first opportunity in 2011 out of the bullpen. This move also makes some sense given that Ross is a right-handed pitcher. The A’s rotation and bullpen is loaded with lefties at this point. Ross joins Grant Balfour, Bobby Cramer, and Brad Ziegler as the only righties in the bullpen.
