Athletics vs. Giants, 2011 Spring Training Preview: Battle Of The Bay Kicks Off In The Desert

The Oakland Athletics host the San Francisco Giants today at Phoenix Municipal Stadium at 12:05pm. The game can be heard live on KTRB 860 AM and KNBR 680 AM. If you live outside the Bay Area you can listen to it over at MLB.com’s Gameday Live Audio.

The A’s are coming off a 6-3 loss to the Rangers yesterday. Although Dallas Braden struggled, free agent pickup Brandon McCarthy was solid in his continued bid for the A’s fifth starter position. McCarthy went three innings giving up one run on three hits and struck out three. He’s currently battling Bobby Cramer and Josh Outman for the fifth starter role.

Today Oakland sends out Brett Anderson to face Giants second year starter Madison Bumgarner. Anderson is making his second start after giving up four runs in two innings. At this point everybody knows Anderson has a world of talent. It’s now a matter of just staying healthy over the long haul. Although Trevor Cahill emerged as the number one starter for the A’s last year, a healthy season for Anderson would likely see him emerge as the number one starter.

The A’s will send out the following lineup:

1. Coco Crisp, CF
2. Daric Barton, 1B
3. Mark Ellis, 2B
4. Josh Willingham, DH
5. Andy LaRoche, 3B
6. Michael Taylor, RF
7. Landon Powell, C
8. Michael Choice, LF
9. Eric Sogard, SS

The Giants send out this lineup:

1. Aaron Rowand, CF
2. Freddy Sanchez, 2B
3. Miguel Tejada, SS
4. Pat Burrell, LF
5. Mark DeRosa, 3B
6. Brandon Belt, 1B
7. Nate Schierholtz, RF
8. Eli Whiteside, DH
9. Chris Stewart, C
