As the Golden State Warriors prepare for their Christmas Day home opener against the new look Los Angeles Clippers, the team was in need of adding some extra depth to their bench, thusly signing small forward Dominic McGuire according to CSN Bay Area’s Matt Steinmetz.
McGuire, 26, played 52 games during the 2010-11 campaign with the Charlotte Bobcats where he averaged 3.3 points per game and 3.8 rebounds a game in around 14 minutes a game.
Terms of McGuire’s deal haven’t been disclosed, but Steinmetz believes he signed a one-year deal for right around $1 million, likely under.
The Warriors were looking for another backup small forward behind Dorell Wright as only rookie Klay Thompson was behind Wright on the depth chart. McGuire is considered more of a defensive player than an offensive one, likely the reason why defensive minded Mark Jackson picked the fifth-year veteran.
McGuire, who played his college ball at Fresno State, also had a short layover in Sacramento with the Kings in 2009-10, staying with the team for only 10 games before heading back to the Wizards, where he played his first two seasons in the league.
