Despite the San Francisco Giants' desire for a right-handed hitting platoon partner for left fielder Gregor Blanco, a spot for which Cody Ross would seem to be a perfect fit, Giants fans shouldn't hold their breath for Ross' return to the Bay Area, according to Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com.
The 31-year-old Ross prefers to play everyday and is reportedly seeking a multi-year deal, but the Giants' front office appears to be set on adding a platoon player on a one-year contract. Not only would that exclude Ross from the club's plans in 2013, but it might also nix the possibility of adding Scott Hairston or Ryan Ludwick, the latter of whom the team reportedly offered a two-year deal prior to inking postseason hero Marco Scutaro to a three-year, $20 million deal.
Ross hit .267 with 22 home runs and 81 RBI in 467 at-bats with the Boston Red Sox last season.
After re-signing Scutaro, center fielder Angel Pagan and left-hander Jeremy Affeldt, the Giants roster would appear set for 2013.
