Cincinnati Reds Manager Dusty Bakers has named Homer Bailey as the starter for Game 3 of the NLDS as he plans on being cautious with Game 1 starter Johnny Cueto.
Cueto left Game 1 of the NLDS versus the San Francisco Giants with back spasms after throwing just eight pitches.
Reds Manager Dusty Baker explained to Daniel Brown of the MercuryNews.com:
"You can't take a chance with Johnny. We can't have him go out there again and have something else happen and have him come up short."
The Reds bullpen stepped up after the loss of Cueto as Cincinnati prevailed with a 5-2 victory on Saturday. The Reds defeated the Giants in Game 2 by a score of 9-0 to take a 2-0 series lead in the NLDS.
Cueto led the Reds with a record of 19-9 with 170 strikeouts and a 2.78 ERA in 33 games this season.
