Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Johnny Cueto appeared to suffer an injury to his back/hip area after finishing his delivery on an 0-1 pitch to the second batter he faced , San Francisco Giants' Marco Scutaro, and he was forced to leave the game.
Cueto was unable to continue, forcing Reds manager Dusty Baker to go to the bullpen and summon right-handed reliever Sam LeCure.
The Reds ace threw just eight pitches in the game, striking out the first batter he faced before leaving in the middle of the second at-bat. Just a few pitches before Cueto motioned to the dugout, he did not finish his delivery during a sequence in which the Giants batter asked for time.
This is certainly a huge break for the Giants, considering the Reds have to turn to their bullpen virtually from the start of the game as opposed to facing one of the best starting pitchers in baseball this past year.
