The San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals were locked in a 0-0 tie through three innings, but a four-run fourth against Lance Lynn propelled the Giants to a comfortable lead. The game is now heading into the sixth and San Francisco continues to lead by four runs.
In the top of the fourth, Marco Scutaro and Pablo Sandoval singled to begin the inning. Buster Posey struck out, but Hunter Pence was able to reach on a throwing error from Lynn that could have potentially been an inning-ending double play. Scutaro came around to score on the error to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. Brandon Belt popped out, and after a Gregor Blanco walk, Brandon Crawford hit a two-run single up the middle. Barry Zito then laid down a perfect bunt to reach first and plate the fourth run of the game.
Zito has been great through five innings. The veteran southpaw got himself into trouble early, but managed to work around it. He has surrendered just four hits and a walk.
