The two previous World Series champions will face off in the 2012 National League Championship Series as the San Francisco Giants, who won in 2010, take on the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals. The two teams faced each other six times in 2012, with each team winning three games.

Down 6-0 in the fourth inning of the NLDS Game 5, the Cardinals mounted an improbable comeback to eliminate the Washington Nationals and move on to the NLCS. The Giants advanced with a comeback of their own, winning three straight road games after dropping their first two postseason games at home against the Reds.

Madison Bumgarner has been named the Giants' starting pitcher for Game 1. The left-hander threw Game 2 against Cincinnati, giving up four runs on seven hits through 4⅓ innings as Bronson Arroyo, J.J. Hoover and Jose Arredondo combined to two-hit the Giants. Lance Lynn is expected to start for St. Louis. Lynn pitched in relief in Game 2, going three innings after Jamie Garcia was pulled in the second. He got the win in that game despite giving up back-to-back home runs to Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche.

Game 1 of the NLCS is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT on Sunday and will be televised on FOX.
