The California Golden Bears lead the Southern Utah Thunderbirds at halftime, 20-3, with all 20 points coming in the second quarter.
Cal was unable to foster much offense in the first quarter, with their two opening drives ending in a punt, and the third and fourth ended in turnovers. Things picked up after that, with Cal hitting a field goal and picking up two rushing touchdowns in the second.
Senior quarterback Zach Maynard is 12-for-17 in the first half with 173 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Isi Sofele leads the rushing attack with 92 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown. C.J. Anderson has only three carries but he's made them count: one was a 35-yard run to put Cal just outside the red zone, and the other was a 6-yard run for the team's second touchdown. Kicker Vincenzo D'Amato is 2-for-2 on field goals.
