There were few seniors in college basketball that meant more to their team than Jorge Gutierrez meant to the Cal Golden Bears. Not only was he among the leading scorers on the club, but he was the heart and soul of the team both on and off the court. He was also named Pac-12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
Gutierrez has played his final game with California, but that does not mean his playing days are over.
While most NBA scouting gurus do not think Gutierrez has much of a chance at the professional level, the feisty guard will have a chance to prove himself at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament next week. The event, which hosts 64 of the best college seniors in the nation, is always stocked full with NBA front office folks. A strong week in the games and practices can really propel a player's stock for the upcoming draft.
Here is the complete roster for the event.
The action is schedule to begin on April 11.
